View Full Version : Why don't commercials have credits?

I've been thinking about this? Why don't commercials have credits? Are the people who work on commercials any less deserving of recognition than those who work on television and movies? Are those who produce commercials considered second class citizens in the world of content creation? It just bothers me.

I suppose you could use the close caption portion of the transmission for flashing a screen of credits for those that want to see it, or else just flash the screen on the normal part for a second -- it people really want to see it, they can tape it then play back and pause.

Of course, people would need to know when the commercial they were interested in was going to pop up, so they could set their VCRs to tape it. This will require some sort of listing service, like TV Guide, that would track the commercials' future appearances.

You don't need listings for commercials. You just watch a show for long enough and the commercial will come on.

I guess you could write to the tv station and ask for their names. Then you could make t-shirts and create a fan website. Then you could have a forum in which people could discuss who made which advert. Then people on that forum would ask "Why don't the people who make this website get a listing?" Then you could do another website for the website makers and have a forum....

I'm tired.

Some adverts have credits for the advertising agency. For instance, sometimes you'll see 'BBH' for B??? Bogle Heggarty flashed on screen for an instant.

Because the company with the product they want to advertise are not about to pay another company to put credits for who made what into the commercial, and give them free advertising while running the delivered product.

Second, having 2 different company names up on the screen would probably confuse the watchers.

You ought to google him then. Your style and content is amazingly alike. Well, he doesn't quite seem as liberal as you.
