For the first time ever in CM, I have taken a team out of the conference at the first attempt. The mightly Woking cruised out with 3 games to spare, runners up in the FA trophy and FA cup 5th round after a nice victory over Portsmouth.

Now in DIv 3, third place and a dozen games to go.

I think I should have been a footie manager.

Qualified from Div 3 in 2nd place.

All set for Div 2 now.

I also seem to have never spent more than 5000 on a player (most were frees), never loaned a player and am making a profit.

The board and the fans love me.:o

At that level you may as well get a free. Just watch out for doing a Peter Taylor in the Premiership :p.

Go RC!
You know, with all this talk of all the CM fans around here, I'm surprised CM isn't sold elsewhere, or cloned and doped for other regional/national sports throughout the world.

Funkodrom

It's sold all over the world, not the US though. I guess because you don't have the size of soccer culture there. Still people like Venom will still hunt down copies from the UK or wherever.

It's basically the brainchild of brothers (Everton supporters) who've built up the company. The main crux of it is the in match engine which is brilliant, you'd have to write an entirely new one for a different sport.

Venom huinted down my copy of CM 00/01.

Darkstar, if you want to try CM I can let you have my old CM3 or CM 99/00 if you like. As you don't know too many of the players then it may not matter to you that it is less than up to date.

I think you do need to know about football to enjoy it though. To anyone who doesn't it they probably wouldn't get the depth of it..

Are you implying there is something that Darkstar doesn't know about?:)

Probably wouldn't run on his computer anyway.

The most fun thing is buying players. Once you get past the first couple of years you can get most of the players you need on Bosmans. At present I’m scheduled to buy about ten of the buggers, but I’ll do a simple cost/benefit analysis and then cancel most of the offers the day before they go through.

Funkodrom

Buying players is great. I love buying young players and making them into international greats as well. :D

Darkstar

Thanks for the offer Funko. But you should probably keep your older copies for your collection. :D Occasionally, I'd just like to see the game to get a better connection with what people are so excited about when they talk about CM. I'm not a huge footie fan although I do like to see the sport played by people who can *play* it. That's a neat thing....

My curiousity about games does make me wonder about the general workings of the game as well, having only heard about it. I'll eventually order a copy from overseas, mess about with it a bit, find this or that interesting, shrug, and move on to the next game. That's because I can tell a lot of the game is connecting to the sport as it's played around you. And that part of the fun and magic, is just going to go over my head. Way over my head. ;)

There are many things Darkstar doesn't know. Darkstar has merely forgotten more then most people bother to learn about useless and random things.

Funkodrom

That was RC who offered that. :D Maybe you should take him up on it? Even from a purely game making point of view CM is a great strategy game. Simple in concept and sound, graphics etc. Incredibly deep in terms of gameplay.

Sorry Funkodrom, Sorry RC. Jeekers, I'm screwing up more then usual tonight, it seems.

Another admission.

After 6 games, Woking are leading Div 2.

CM4 is due out in November chaps. That is supposed to have some form of graphical representation of the game (probably a simple top-down display) which I for one look forward too but some of the purists think is a really naff idea.

Funkodrom
17-10-2002, 10:30:02
I don't know whether I think it's a good idea or not. The CM engine has always modeled the player movements behind the scenes. They are just making that visible to the Manager now.

I guess I'll see how it's done. I wonder if you'll be able to play it in Text mode.

BTW, CM4 should be out March 21st next year according to Nostrodamus.

I thought November was a bit soon but I saw it as November on Softwarefirst.co.uk.

Of course, checking the official site would have been the smart thing to do, I grant you.

Did you read that link?

I'm not sure what the release date will be but it seems they are starting to release information about CM4 from November, I don't think that's the release date.

Resource Consumer

Yep read that - could be a wind-up article but then again there is no reference to a November release on www.gonegold.com although that tends to be Yankocentric.

No problem for me if it is March, anyway, I'm doing well enough with Woking and it would have been a pity to abandon this one so soon.

Funkodrom

I don't think that November is very likely with the lack of info about the game out at the moment.

Surely early-mid December?

Sean

Speaking of CM, I am convinced this is the longest dribble (no puns please) ever.

 one of your players?

Sean

Whoops, I put the 30min in there twice. It was supposed to be that length from the 31min section.

Funkodrom

Did he score?

i just noticed sean plays with the gay new font rather than the classic old one...

Funkodrom

When did it change? I just play with the default for each version.

King_Ghidra
18-10-2002, 09:19:26
01/02 i think - it is the default font for that version

Resource Consumer

I love it when players are so confident of themselves they take the ball backwards and have to beat the defenders twice. I did see somewhere on one of the CM forums about one dribble where Ronaldo beat the same defender 5 times:D

Funkodrom
18-10-2002, 09:25:51
Doesn't look much different to 00/01 to me... I can't remember.

It’s more compact.

Funkodrom

I keep forgetting it's windowed so I can play whilst chatting.

Sean

I also play it windowed.

And no, he didn’t score. But we won the match.

Okoronkwo (at the beginning of your mad dribble) is a superb defender (in my game at least, and part of these Shankar Donesk nigerian players I try to buy regularly. I think Agehowa is the other one

Sean

I know, he and Rustico are an amazing centre back partnership.

Assane N’Diaye is also good from Shakhtar.

What is it about Woking - nobody from Zaprozhe or Rotor Volgograd or wherever wants to go there.

A bit unrealistic there I think:)
