View Full Version : Warcraft III patch v1.03 released

10-10-2002, 15:52:03
It was out yesterday but I didn't spot it. You can read the revisions list here:

A lot of bug fixes as well as some balancing issues. My ArchMage has been made a bit crapper. :(

Note that when you upgrade your replays from 1.02 can no longer be viewed under 1.03. What a bitch.

Why do they always do that shit? I hate when updates erase important parts of games.

Sports games are brutal with this. Almost every important patch they issue ends up erasing your saved seasons.

10-10-2002, 16:56:09
Not in CM, unless there is an adminstrative error :bounce:.

10-10-2002, 16:56:47
Atalanta game is progressing pretty well, BTW. I have the best central defensive partnership ever: Fabio Rustico and Isaak Okoronkwo.

10-10-2002, 17:07:32
Sorry, should have said sports games by Electronic Arts.

10-10-2002, 17:14:25
There was a stand for EA at the Digital Arts World event I went to today. Scarily it was very popular, all these people signing up for this 'Games uni bollocks'.

That patch news seems a bit negative. It does fix some bugs. We'll have to see how the play balancing will change things. Not sure players my level will notice them too much.

10-10-2002, 18:00:58
I hope that means that the team working on the D2 patch will double again.

11-10-2002, 02:22:08
You should notice a few changes.

Orcs: Start a lot better since they can build all three starting buildings at once like the other races. But they seem to have had all their special tactics (mass shamans, tower creeping) nerfed quite heavily.

NE: Moonwells have been nerfed a little bit, or quite a lot depending on how they get used. NE players will pay a lot for getting mana recharged from them now, though. Thorns has also been reduced in damage quite a lot, except perhaps against the really big units. Manaburn gets a teeny-tiny nerf, going from 6 to 9 seconds.

Undead: Several boosts here. Gargoyles are better vs. ground units, Dreadlords are better (Infernal can't be dispelled and poison/disease won't affect Sleep), Liches get more HPs and their two crap hero abilities (Death Pact and Frost armour) are both improved.

Humans: The Arch-Mage gets three Nerfs: water elements don't last quite as long, Blizzard doesn't increase in AoE with levels, and Brilliance now adds a set amount of mana regeneration. None of this will really affect him majorly though. Mass teleport is unchanged, and the stats on Blizzard and the WEs are the same. Brilliance is still sleazy with mass casters, but no longer gives friendly heroes unlimited mana for Thunderclap and Holy Light. The Paladin gets what seems like an utterly useless boost - Divine shield costs 25 mana.

Mt: Well, they'll have someone who can test it now, perhaps:).

Ork Special Tactics both seemed like against the spirit of the game. Massing one type of unit really shouldn't be allowed to work.

11-10-2002, 09:52:01
Orc special tactics were very much against the spirit of the game. Trouble was it was very hard to play the Orcs any other way because they lack any healing.

11-10-2002, 14:04:14
They've got those troll things.

The Shaker
11-10-2002, 19:07:36
only late game.

11-10-2002, 23:39:38
Yes the troll things take a long time to get.

Venom and other new players: 1.03 also includes 3 settings for the skirmish A.I. There is now an easy setting, which should be a bit easier to kill than the normal setting.

They also included an 'insane' A.I which thinks it gets double resources. Crazy, man...

19-10-2002, 03:05:42
Easy setting doesn't seem any easier than normal setting.

The insane A.I is plain broken, people keep getting massive lag halfway through games. So much for that.

21-10-2002, 09:05:53
Shamen seem shit now.

21-10-2002, 09:56:17
And damn Warcraft for eating up my weekends.

21-10-2002, 10:16:58
I played a custom game against 3ai on a medium map at standard level yesterday. The framerate just bombed, so much so, that it was unplayable.

I'm really struggling to get into this game because of poor performance on my PC. My spec isnt that bad. (athlon 1.2, geforce3, 256mbs ram). :(

21-10-2002, 10:19:40
That's a better spec than my machine. Well the same other than I only have a GeForce2. It's fine on my PC unless we're playing against the New Zealanders, then it lags like hell in the big battles and I can't control anything.

21-10-2002, 10:20:18
I seem to remember TauCeti saying he was playing it on something like a PIII 500.

21-10-2002, 11:28:14
The Insane A.I can cause massive lag problems for some reason, it might be something to do with that particular bug.

Otherwise, yeah, you are definitely having Darkstar problems, Nav. What kind of resolution are you trying to run it at, 2600*1800?!?

21-10-2002, 11:33:57
I'm at 800*600.

21-10-2002, 12:28:58
If I download this patch, do I need to download all the other patches as well... or are all the previous fixes in this one?

21-10-2002, 12:48:49
I don't know I'm afraid. I just got it downloaded automatically when I went onto battlenet.

Correct. And a 32MB TNT2 graphics card. There is some slowdown in large battles, but that is to be expected, and it is usually quite manageable except in large games hosted in NZ. It is never uncontrollable, though. I can still see when I need to run away. :)

Damn other things eating up my weekend Warcraft time. :bash: I have been unavailable for two weekends in a row now, and will be for another one. Anyone interested in the occasional (Euro) evening game?

21-10-2002, 16:09:11
I am very interested but I'm so busy at the moment I don't know if I'll have time. I'll look out for you on ICQ though.

All the fixes will be in the current patch. And the easiest way to get it is to connect to bnet and let the autopatcher take care of it, like FunkO said.

Tau, European evenings are bad for Ned and me atm, but we should have that fixed in the next few days hopefully. :) Keep an eye out on ICQ.

I seem to be winning more games under version 1.03. That's nice, at least:D.

Having just got this, I have to say that I do not think this is bad at all but I would not call it fantastic. However, I do rather like it and I am sure it wil grow on me when I have gone through the campaigns and got more experience.:D

22-10-2002, 10:53:28
Cool. The campaigns are really not the meat of the game, that's MP.

22-10-2002, 12:18:33
Thanks Rachel. :)

Of course, this is where Beta-1 surfaces and challenges me that there is not one game that I have liked...

23-10-2002, 02:16:29
You liked Combat Mission, didn't you, RC?

23-10-2002, 02:30:50
Tee hee:).

23-10-2002, 02:57:50
That Thrax fellow that stopped by earlier today said he was a big Warcraft 3 player. Perhaps you guys can challenge him when he comes back.

23-10-2002, 03:02:16
Might be fun.

Or horrendous:).

23-10-2002, 03:07:30
Hey just letting you know. Do what you want with that information, though I doubt he'll be back.

That's true. COmbat Mission was ok - it helped that it had the same initials as Championship Manager
