Or everyone's favourite, the Trance drum pattern.

Donk, Donk, Donk, Donk.

If only you could play that.

I like mucking about with my drum machine to get exactly the drum track I want, but I reckon a software-based drum machine would probably be easier to use. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Reason. It is absolutely awesome. It is also huge so it may take you a week or so to download it with edonkey.

Reason? How much is a legal copy of it?

Caligastia

Never mind, I just looked it up. Its a bit out of my price range. Also it seems to be a lot more than just a drum machine.

Is Reason pretty similar to Sound Forge? I have Sound Forge already but I havent messed around with it yet.

I've got the Zoom 234 drum machine and it's easy to use, I'm just not a drummer. I don't count bars etc ever!

I guess you dont get out of a 4/4 beat very often then...:D

Scabrous Birdseed
09-10-2002, 15:20:47
Who needs to? Rokc that's not 4/4 or 12/8 is not really rock, is it?

Caligastia
09-10-2002, 15:59:47
Well I was creating a drum track for one of my riffs the other day, and I couldnt get a 4/4 beat to work with it, so I had to go with 7/8. Its still rock though.

PosterBoy

I tend to stick to 4/4 and 3/4.
You can't beat a nice minuet

Scabrous Birdseed
09-10-2002, 16:16:27
7/8? Good lord. How does it smell?

Scabrous Birdseed

12/8 is quite nice.

My favourite is "B'dum-dum-tish".

Im not even sure if its 7/8. Instead of 32 measures it has 30. I might post it on here after I do some fine-tuning, that way you can judge for yourself if it smells or not.:p

I wrote a really cool riff once but protein said it was in 5/4 so we couldn't use it. :(

Caligastia
09-10-2002, 16:35:24
Why? Whats wrong with 5/4?

Scabrous Birdseed
09-10-2002, 16:38:25
It's impossible to nod your head to, and a damn bugger to sing. I know, I've tried.

Funkodrom
09-10-2002, 16:38:28
Apparently it doesn't rock. I suspect it's 'cause drummers can't count up to 5 although I explained you could count to 4 then 1. I think it was a bit much.

Caligastia

Im thinking of posting one of the riffs Im working on for you guys to listen to and give me your opinons. Should I be worried about it being stolen if I do?:D

Funkodrom
09-10-2002, 16:43:06
Only if it's really good.

Funkodrom
09-10-2002, 16:43:28
Then again, just make it hard to play and we won't be able to. :D

RedFred

No worries. Pretty hard to fence drum riffs.

PosterBoy, dig up your old Black Uhuru. They had the best drummer ever.

Its not just drums, I have guitar tracks in there too.

Funkodrom

I want to hear it, promise I won't nick it.

Caligastia
09-10-2002, 18:06:55
Ok, I'll post it sometime in the next couple of days. The mix might be a bit rough though...

Funkodrom
09-10-2002, 18:32:25
That's OK, Snappy will think it's edgy and using post modern garage rock production or something.

Caligastia
09-10-2002, 18:38:17
Its not really in the format of a song, its just two riffs that work together played through a couple of times. I havent made any attempt to arrange it yet. Still, I think you'll find it interesting.

Is it easy to save into MP3 format using Cakewalk? I havent even tried it yet...

Lazarus and the Gimp
09-10-2002, 19:02:54
We need more rock in 5/4. Actually, I love rock in 3/4 because it tends to end up sounding a bit warped.

Funkodrom
09-10-2002, 19:18:26
Actually it was mainly binned because up until half way through it inadvertantly sounded like Since You've Been Gone by Rainbow, which I found the first time I played it to the band and they all instantly ended it like the Rainbow way. D'oh.

Ok, so I saved my tracks to an mp3, but unfortunately I cant get it any smaller than 1.4MB without it sounding like shit. Is there someone who wouldnt mind putting it on their website so it can be downloaded from here?

Caligastia
10-10-2002, 01:33:45
I just sacrificed more sound quality to get it down to 880kb so I can email it to myself at work. Maybe I could just email it to anyone who wants to hear it.

Funkodrom
10-10-2002, 08:19:48
If you e-mail it to me I'll put it on Loudmedicine. That's what it's there for after all.

I'll pm you my address.

Thanks Mike. I just sent the riff.
