View Full Version : Article idea: gaming stories, or, what I did in my gaming-days

All great games create stories. Sometimes you follow a linear plot, and add a few embellishments of your own, like in most first-person games. Sometimes you’re given a game and told to go play, like in the Sims. But we don’t tell each other these stories in the gaming reviews, we talk about how it plays, what it looks like, what it sounds like, what games it is like…but not what we did.

You’ve all got a story; Nav told us a short one in the Battlefield 1942 thread (http://www.counterglow.net/forum/showthread.php?threadid=7107). (‘I shot two guys at the end, I thought I was going to lose the whole match when I saw the rocket flying towards me. I just killed the guy before it hit. Game over.’ )

Why not combine these stories into an article? It’d be something aside from just game reviews, which you can get anywhere. And it makes us feel important.

Great idea!

There's a good story from Fist in the Warcraft III replay thread about his Goblin Zepplin. :D

Not just any story: an illustrated story.

02-10-2002, 12:21:54
i don't haVE ANY CRAYONS

02-10-2002, 12:22:38

I've got a few about different games with CGers through the years as well.

All the way back to stuff like the notorious "You can never beat me!" cry from SATAN shortly before he crashed headlong into the wall on jellybikes.

I’ve got one soon, as myself and some friends attempt a Diplomacy game (face-to-face). We’ve set aside eight hours for it.

Also some console game mini-stories from stuff like ISS, Tony Hawks, and Mario Party. Maybe you could copy this famous own goal to PC somehow?

Anyone could do a Champ Man one, I suppose.

02-10-2002, 12:35:34
I don't know how...

There's also the greatest game of ISS ever where SATAN and I lost 5-4 after being 4-1 up at half time when Shakey humiliated us with a hattrick using "The Trick".

02-10-2002, 12:36:48
Neither do I, I was rather hoping you did :).

Which trick? The sidestep thingy?

02-10-2002, 12:39:34
Yeah. :o

We were so smug at half time. It's the curse of K_G, whenever he starts saying how well he's doing, he loses.

Of course I remember I said something along the lines of "You might as well sit back and enjoy the second half." Then we showed the worlds most inept defensive performance in a team game of ISS ever which sucks because individually we are both brilliant defenders.

02-10-2002, 12:40:28
and we did high fives :o

02-10-2002, 12:40:32
Modest, too.

I think I’ve only played one game of two-v-two, and that was unbalanced because there were only three of us that were any good at it.

02-10-2002, 12:43:21
The banter in ISS is part of the fun. :D

i long to write the story of my 26 game unbeaten streak, a gripping tale of genius fascinating to anyone who loves art or football

02-10-2002, 12:47:54
Maybe I should write about your current losing streak as well. :D

02-10-2002, 13:12:01
I know the banter is fun, it’s fun in all console games.

02-10-2002, 13:15:37
And even in MP pc games. There can be some great banter (between teamates) in the CG WC3 games mostly after the games though.

FPS is the best for that though. :D

In Diplomacy it’s crucial. Tomorrrow, 3 ’til 11. I hope I’m not Austria.

02-10-2002, 14:27:36
(Because if I am it could be 3 ’til 4 for me.)

Don't forget to mention drunkly losing to me, despite the fact that, compared to you, I've hardly ever played ISS. :clueless: Admittedly I was playing as Classic Argentina and you we're, like, Latvia or someone.

A good player can win with any team. Hrmph!

There are a few 'game reports' up in the WarcraftIII thread at the moment, they could probably be expanded upon:).

All my stories are of the "I spent several weeks creating a UT level in the shape of a giant coffee table" variety.

that's the IKEA in you coming out
