The Big Star Bitchslap is underway.

Our five appointed judges are- Mike, Iain, Spartak, Cal and Rachel. Each of them has a CD of Big Star tracks on the way to them. I subscribe to the "Sod it. That'll do" approach to working out postage costs, so while I've no doubt that Cal and Rachel's discs will reach them, there's always the chance that rather than by the requested airmail it might be by transcontinental yak mail.

The tracks are (in alphabetical order, just as they are on the CD's)

Ballad of El Goodo
Blue Moon
Kanga Roo
Kizza Me
Life is White
September Gurls
What's Going Ahn
When My Baby's Beside Me
You can't have me
You Get What You Deserve

Judges- your job is to post what you think of each track, and mark each track out of 10.

To avoid undue delays being caused by unrealiable mail services/judges being idle workshy bastards, the contest will be declared finished one week after the 3rd set of marks is posted here.

I'd like to thank all our judges for helping Snapcase and myself settle a tenuous point that no sane person gives a toss about.

Whenever I sing "What's going ahn" to myself, I keep spontaneously rendering the last line of the chorus as "The Living God is Just a Man" instead of "What's Going Ahn and How It's Planned". Am I deeply, deeply emotionally disturbed?

Excellent. I live to solve pointless riddles.

Will Laz’s CD get to Iain before Iain’s gets to me?

Iain assured me they were burnt yesterday. I have 5 on LWP3 happening before LWP2. :cute:

Of course.

I've got Laz's CD already. As for LWP2, unfortunately due to my new job paying monthly and my old job paying weekly, the resultant gap (coupled with my rent going out for the first time!) means I can barely afford a penny chew let alone to send out CDs to far-flung places of the globe (er, okay, Leamington Spa and Reading).

I get paid on Tuesday so they will go out then at the very latest. In the meantime I'm nearly done with my review of Sean's CD and if Mike is too then we can get the first instalment out ASAP.

I've done half of it. I'll finish it sharpish.

*Relating to other thread* He's also covered Gram Parsons a couple of times. Brass Buttons on the Lemonheads album Lovey, and 1000 Dollar Wedding with Juliana Hatfield on that Gram Parsons tribute album that came out a couple of years ago.

Is Juliana Hatfield the Metallica singer in a dress?
