Planet PS2 has a review (http://www.planetps2.com/features/reviews/2002/tekken4/) of the new Tekken game. Our resident beat-em-up fanatic King_Ghidra has also done us a review (http://www.counterglow.net/article.php?id=tekken4rev) which you can find here (http://www.counterglow.net/article.php?id=tekken4rev).

I'm not sure I can face playing another Tekken game...

I like the Tekken games and haven't played one in ages. I might rent this one.

protein brought Tag Tournament round one evening and we played that a lot. I liked the tag idea but it wasn't very inspiring. Very quickly got bored. I never really got into Tekken 3 either. Was a little bit too samey. Like, OK, I've done this before.

That just described most RPGs, FPS, TBSes, and RTS games, Funko. You know that, don't you? Oh, and most jump puzzle games, and most...

Yeah, but it's still Tekken and not that much different from the last Tekken I'd played...

What about PES?

That seemed a lot different to ISS2. Very different feel to the game and a lot to learn. I could play TTT with much the same moves I'd used in Tekken, not to any high standard maybe.

I take your point though, perhaps it's a symptom of my lesser enthusiasm for the genre.

Probably only because you had got so used to ISS2. I am, slowly, as I get few chances to play it ATM, becoming competent at PES. I even won a mini-tournament with Paraguay, and only conceded one goal!

Maybe. I would say that the fell of PES was more different to ISS2 than the feel of TTT was to Tekken 3 but I have nothing like the play time on either of the Tekken games to what I have on the football games.

i would say mainly it's because you don't have the depth of appreciation and experience with tekken that you do with pes

for people who are hardcore tekken fans, finding out that Heihachi's demon fist has had 8 frames added to it is like hearing that aliens have landed, it seems a big diffeence to the game.

I'm not quite as hardcore as that, but I see the impact of a few tweaks as a big thing between different versions.

The same applies to the street fighter series. I don't think any game engine has had such a succession of minor tweaks and yet spawned maybe twenty different games on various platforms

Probably people who weren't hardcore ISS fans couldn't tell the difference between ISS and ISS2 either but things like the centerbacks being able to position themselves correctly to deal with throughballs with 4 at the back made a huge different to the game. Suddenly in ISS2 4 at the back formations were viable.

Unless you play scum you play one-twos all the time. I personally never use it in ISSPE2 because it’s overpowered, either go down the flanks with three at the back or through the middle with four at the back.

in pes the 1-2's suck, they're useless

Funkodrom

They aren't entirely useless but they are certainly a lot less powerful than in ISSPE2, and a lot harder to execute properly. One good thing about the new 2 button system for 1-2s is that you can start executing the 1-2, cancel it, pass to another player with triangle and still have the guy who started the 1-2 coming into the box.

I haven’t used the 1-2 in PES yet, got so used to going without in ISS PE 2 that I left it alone. I cross the ball a lot in PES, which doesn’t have good results, and it’s tricky to do so with Paraguay playing so narrow.

Funkodrom

crossing is also a lot harder. L1 and O gives an interesting cross and you need to bend the crosses which is tricky to master.

i need to come and play some more competitive matches with you guys...

...and i still haven't seen that famous own goal
