The talk about a CG song reminded me that I was talking to RC at the meeting and we were saying that if you do come over here sometime we should get together and record a song.

Due to personal reasons I guess I won't make it until late November :(

Anyway, C@H talked about flying to London later this year.
Maybe we could do some composing and arranging before that ...

Late November is actually better for me than October.

Yeah, it was C@H I was talking to about it and composing/arranging beforehand isn't a bad idea. Or at least getting some ideas down.

Do you guys ever record on your pcs?

Vincent
13-09-2002, 16:07:37
No.

Funkodrom
13-09-2002, 16:07:41
Not really. protein is the guy to ask about that.

Caligastia

Is protein on here much?

Funkodrom

More on the music forum than here.

I tried over years and all I got was out of sync tracks and a lot of hissing and humming. Everything recorded via analog in sounds just horrible. I never tried mic in ...

Vincent

And it's a pain in the arse if you want to record guitar and got no TFT.

Funkodrom
13-09-2002, 16:11:05
protein gets some good results.

Funkodrom
13-09-2002, 16:11:27
Well reasonable sketches of songs anyway.

Im getting some ok sound by hooking up my amp to my sound card. I would like to hook up my mike, but havent found the right adapter yet.

Caligastia

Whats a TFT?

Vincent

I just use the final mix PC and for mastering. Used some software for the Boss Manly song, to add the, um, voices. Enhanced the samples with external devices.

I'm a shitty Lo-Fi guy so I don't really mind hisses and hums, and I re-encode everything except the vocals into MIDI anyway, adding additional layers of fake noise afterwards.

TFT = Thin Film Transistor (LCD Monitor)

CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) causes humming. Or HUMMING. Especially on single coil pickups, oi mama!

Caligastia
13-09-2002, 16:18:46
Really? Im going to try recording with my monitor off and see if it makes a difference.

Vincent
13-09-2002, 16:19:46
It depends from the distance and the position of the monitor.

Caligastia
13-09-2002, 16:21:34
How far away does it need to be?

Vincent
13-09-2002, 16:23:55
Depends on guitar, pickups, cords and monitor. I had problems up to 3 m.

Vincent
13-09-2002, 16:26:26
I never moved

Funkodrom
13-09-2002, 16:27:03
Moved so protein will see it.

Vincent
13-09-2002, 16:31:14
and then?

Funkodrom
13-09-2002, 16:31:34
He can say how he records guitar on his computer.

Vincent
13-09-2002, 16:34:14
Will it help?

Caligastia
13-09-2002, 16:37:44
I already created another thread.
