View Full Version : My new favourite band?

I'm going to do a proper review of this gig I went to last night... and I probably will tomorrow but I just wanted to say that I think Miss Black America might be my new favourite band.

http://www.missblackamerica.net/

Punky, edgy, intense, passionate, crazy, funny.

Debaser: "I love the way he makes his guitar make space invader noises"

Don't judge them by the songs available on their website, which are piss-weak compared to how good they were live.

Very true. Good point.

I hope the album is closer to the live sound than those mp3s but the Kerrang review says it sounds a bit weak. :(

Never heard anything by them. I'd ask for MP3 recommendations, but you'd probably just tell me to go to a gig by them instead :D

Yep. :D

Their album's not out until next monday so you probably can't download anything but what's on their website. Go and see them live. :D

King Prawn are next Weds. I'll definitely think about going to see them.

27th October it's the Metal Hammer Nu-Breed Tour: Pornorphans are headlining and supported by our buddies in Throat.

The only memorable thing about King Prawn was their song "I wanna smoke some shit"

Funkodrom

What kind of music?

Funkodrom
13-09-2002, 10:40:53
Hmmm... Reggae ska? Just listening to a track. Not exactly my thing.

Yeah, it's an acquired taste. And I can't be bothered to acquire it.

Amy's bringing a crew down from Bristol so in the end it's a sum benefit.

Debaser

The joke was nobody is turning up to our bar-b-que. It's all your fault you idle fuck.

There are loads of people coming.

The Woking'nam girls and the LSB entourage being the two largest out of town delegations.

Goat Spawn

What do you want from those slappers??

"Left side brain" who the hell are they??

We don't want anything, we just like looking at them.

Mike, is there any way of posting that Pop Rivals thing I sent you. That is possibly the funniest thing I've ever seen?

Slightly inaccurate. We know we're not going to get anything so we just enjoy looking at them.

Spawny: I dunno, I deleted it.

A saw Tetra Splendour playing in Tower Records in London. They were pretty good too.

Provost Harrison

It is unusual to get much playing in Hull - I've never quite understood it.

Debaser

Reading's the same (except for the festival obviously). 100 Reasons played here a while ago, and Beth Orton is soon, but that's about it.

Check them out PH they are really good.

I'm going to see Bowling for Soup on 17 Oct in Oxford, should be a laugh if nothing else,
Has anyone heard the album? i'm just going on the strength of the single

Funkodrom

I haven't heard them at all.

*End is Forever* likes them, so they must suck.

So what are the Curtis Mayfield influences in MBA's music?

Something to do with amputations perhaps? Is this even a serious question? Am I trying to be too clever for my own good?

Miss Black America is the name of a Curtis Mayfield track from 1970. I was wondering if they took something other than the name from him.

I've not heard the new BFS album but I wouldn't hold your breath. The last one was pretty dire apart from The Bitch Song. But they should be a laugh even if the music isn't great...

Provost Harrison

Yes, from what I have heard of BFS, they sound like a piss-poor pop-punk band...and there are enough of those on the go :D
