The case against:

1) He's smug - now that in itself is no bad thing, but only if it is allied to undeniable talent. Wheras it is all too easy to deny RW's talent.

2) He can't sing. My girlfriend thinks he's got a lovely voice but she knows nothing. His newest album, the execrable 'swing when you're winning' only proves this too easily. it's one thing belting out pop, but crooning? Give me a break.

3) He is pathetically self-obsessed in a 'look-at-me-but-you-know i'm-not-just-a-cheeky-celebrity-i-cry-too-no-honest' kind of way, that just makes him look like a simpering little twat.

4)He's rich and famous and i'm jealous.

I think to say that RW can't sing is completely wrong. He is one of the few "singing popsters" who actually can perform without the use of a pitch corrector. He's got an excellent top register IMHO (my HO formed from being a part-time tenor) and I think he's got a lot of musical talent -certainly a lot of knowlege about music.

Ok, he's not the next Sinatra, but then Sinatra is probably one of the finest singers ever recorded, but I think he's more of a swinger than Harry Connick Jr for example who's voice is just a bit too bland.

RW certainly is a much more interesting voice than that droneing git from the Shitehouse Family.

Plus, any time I ever do RW songs at Karaoke girls love it, so it must be good stuff :D

unfortunately i do have to admit that your opinion carries more weight than mine on the singing front :o

i actually saw the 'swing' gig he did at albert square on the telly and i just wasn't very impressed...

why was i watching? sacrifice for the woman, i wanted to see the footy :(

Positive things:

1) Cocky bastard. Always nice in a musician.

2) Can sing. Reasonably.

Negative things:

1) Thick as a brick.

2) No desire to expand the horizons of music in any ways whatsoever.

3) Has crap producers, choses crap song material.

4) Used to be a member of Take That.

5) Revels in immaturity without actually conciously adopting a naivistic stance. Basically, intelligent, mature people doing childish music because it's cool (e.g. The Ramones) is good, whereas a really immature person doing immature music (Robbie, Sum 41, etc.) is almost as bad as immature people doing "mature" music (e.g. Pink Floyd).

6) Is really LCDish. Good commercial music should have the ambition of creating music with quality new production techniques, quality songwriting, quality messages or whatever. Practically only American R&B is doing that right now- Timbaland, Missy Elliott, etc.

His Cribs show on MTV was hilarious though. He's a funny bastard. But he still sucks.

Yes is just edging ahead it's still very close but it seems the no voters, aside from Funky, aren't prepared to back up Robbie with words. ;)

"Good commercial music should have the ambition of creating music with quality new production techniques, quality songwriting, quality messages or whatever."

I think he's quite good as far as "whatever" is concerned....

I voted no becuase i think that is the correct answer to the question. I don't think there is anything wrong with RW. I don't necessarily think there is anything right with him either though :D I like some of his songs, but have been known to switch off the radio if others come on.

That is pretty reasonable... Rock DJ is one of his that was particularly galling but some of his songs are OK.

Not much fun being reasonable though is it? :D

I couldn't stand it.

Are the lyrics ironic? "I just want to rock, DJ"

Can DJ's not play rock?

i wouldn't mind a pair of pants like those in the vid as well:cool:

They can but Robbie can't.

I never watched the video that far.

The video gets really good when he starts ripping off his own flesh in order to try to attract the attention of the DJ...

Rock DJ was a clever song - lots of musical references to other tracks - Madonna's "Vogue", Ant&Decs "Watch us wreck the Mike" etc.

She's the one is a beautiful song - I totally agree.

Ant&Decs "Watch us wreck the Mike"

Er... That's a good thing?

i remember that on The Box they used to have to fade the video out at that point and then they used to display a message on the screen saying 'due to the content we cannot show the rest of this video' or something equally ridiculous.

Actually in fairness the ice dance video to she's the one was the lick as well. Nice bird too

The video to "Kids" with Kylie was great too - lesbians snogging in the background always wins my vote

I don't think I've seen that. I would have remembered...

Only two things: his antecedence and his smugness.

He's a twat.

I won't stand for Sum-41 being compared with Robbie Williams! :shoot:
