View Full Version : What happened in Frome?

My point of view.

It was all very boring, waiting for all the other bands to soundcheck etc. Got drunk, wasn't nervous at all.

Got on stage to soundcheck as doors were opening. We were using everyone elses kit so it was already sounding good Soundchecked, couldn't hear drums or vocals on through the monitors stage. Told sound guys.

Went off stage. Got told we had to basically go straight on.

Went straight on. Played all our songs, missed verses, timed cues badly. Generally sounded really good and tight though. Pete (singer) went crazy, I spent a lot of time wandering around the stage looking at the drummer and right across to the far side to the other guitarist to get cues as to where we were at in the songs. Apparently that looked quite rock.

There weren't that many people there but all our friends were lined up in front of the stage, couldn't really see them 'cause of the lights. Could hear them though, they made a lot of noise in between songs. At the end Stood on stage looking a bit lost, waving. Got off. Got congratulated. Drank a shit load of free booze and some scrumpy.

What the crowd said:

We really rocked, they were surprised how professional sounding we were (all those shit quality demos going round where we can't play very well.) they couldn't believe it was our first gig, they didn't notice any mistakes (I didn't believe them) my wandering around lost on stage looking for cues looked good and Pete was an awesome rock monster and they couldn't believe how nuts he went.

Then there were some other bands who were good too. :D

The attendance wasn't very good though and LSB didn't make any money, although they didn't lose too much. Still a shame. :(

So that's why guitarists wander around the stage all the time. I thought that was what you were supposed to do. :D

Sounds like you had fun, maybe the next Unholy gig will be closer to London!

 Will there be any chance for a gig in Sweden? Gothenburg sure needs some good concerts...

Funkodrom
28-07-2002, 14:49:39
I would have liked to watch Pete going mental. I didn't see any of that.

I'd love to do a gig in Sweden. If we could afford to get out there I'm sure we would. :D

Two words - Guitar amps. :D

Oh, I'm sure they'll let you send over your guitar amps, as long as you don't bring any clothes. :D

DOH!

:D

Funkodrom
28-07-2002, 19:59:04
If you find us somewhere to play that'll pay us, a crowd, some amps and somewhere to stay we'd definitely try and do it. Doing a gig in Sweden would be pretty rock!!

I´ll see what I can do. ;) Getting the equipment and lodging is the easy part. Getting money is not so easy, since you´re 'minor band', unknown in Sweden the best you can count on is free beer and food. You will get the opportunity to sell demos and stuff though.

What about a venue?

If I'm going to stand with a video camera and film the unpredicatble jumping around of your singer, you'd better let me in for free!

I feel very ropey after this weekend. I think we may have drunk all of the other band's beer as well as our own.

Everybody's reaction after the gig was how mental & brilliant Pete was!

Funkodrom
29-07-2002, 11:13:14
I think we might have done as well.

:nervous:

Funkodrom

I totally missed Pete being mental as well.

I was watching him most of the time that I wasn't going mental myself. He was nuts!

We did well by the crowds reaction and the fun we had.
The beer, nerves and monitors made us fuck up alot. You guys should have told the soundman though, I did and I could hear everything pretty well except myself.

Funkodrom
29-07-2002, 11:17:30
LSB bassist said he was surprised by us, he didn't expect us to be as tight as that and that they'd probably try and play with us again.

Oli had to stop Gareth singing in Theme because he thought he'd damage his voice.

Well we could hear most stuff except you and Pete as well. We didn't really get chance to tell the soundman, we didn't have microphones, after you told him in our sound check I thought it was louder but it wasn't when we were all playing.

Well, we are as good as we thought we were it seems. Everyone seemed to get it and laughed at the right moments and rocked at the right moments.

How much did you pay them?

Funkodrom
29-07-2002, 11:22:40
I couldn't really see the crowd either. :D I seem to only remember staring at the drum kit or Nik for most of the gig. Going to take my camera to get developed now.

A trip to Gothenburg would take massive organisation and a fair bit of cash, I don't know if it would even be possible to organise us all to do it or get things together for that. It's a long way!

I would love to be telling people we were going to Sweden for a gig though. :D

Funkodrom

I've put my photos in for processing, they'll be ready this afternoon, if there are any good ones I'll try and scan them tonight.

If you do manage to organize yourselves let me know, allright? I suppose it wouldn´t hurt if you got a few more gigs at home before you start an European Tour... ;)

Sounds awesome! Good going, guys, most bands never make it this far, and most that do drop right back out again. Sounds like you guys made a great impression and have a shot at some real recognition. Cool!
