What song represents how you feel at the moment?

Mine has to be Pink Floyd - Comfortabley Numb:

Hello.
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?

Come on, now.
I hear you're feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain,
Get you on your feet again.

Relax.
I need some information first.
Just the basic facts:
Can you show me where it hurts?

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'.
When I was a child I had a fever.
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I got that feeling once again.
I can't explain, you would not understand.
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.

Ok.
Just a little pinprick. [ping]
There'll be no more --Aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.

Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working. Good.
That'll keep you going for the show.
Come on it's time to go.

There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.

Sheesh, you need serious mental help if that's the mood you're in. The Floyd wrote that song (and I believe the entire The Wall album) about their chum (can't remember his name) who was very musically talented, but took so many drugs his brain literally melted. He disappeared for 20 years, re-appeared one day by turning up at Radio 1 when The Floyd were doing a recording and none of them recognised him he was so messed up. Eventually he ended up walking from London to Cambridge where he now lives in a care home!

Don't end up like that

Yeah when they saw him he was bald and fat, nothing likr the man he used to be.

It's just a song I like to listen to when I need to relax before doing a big heap of work.

Another great song is Shine On You Crazy Diamond. I just love those haunting chords near the beginning.

The song that most reflects my mood right now is:

"No Cigar" by Millencolin

tell us where you're from,
what you want to become
and we'll say if you're ok.
where did you go to school?
right answer and you're cool.
yeah you're the kid all day.
you get a sticker in your face.
information about the case,
so you know your potential.
don't you think you can extend,
don't you think you can extend,
just comprehend.
but i don't wanna hear it,
no it's more than i can accept.

i don't care where i belong no more.
what we share or not i will ignore.

we will shut you out.
we'll put you in doubt if you think that you're special.
we'll tell you who you are.
tell you that you're close but no cigar.
but, i don't want wanna hear it,
no it's more than i can accept.

'cause i don't care where i belong no more.
what we share or not i will ignore.
and i won't waste my time fitting in.
'cause i don't think constrast is a sin.

what they say is... go back, where you came from.
they'll tell you that, but i don't wanna hear.
no, i don't wanna hear. no, i don't wanna hear it.
no, it's more than i accept.

'cause i don't care where i belong no more.
what we share or not i will ignore.
and i won't waste my time fitting in. '
cause i don't think constrast is a sin.
no it's not a sin

SEX, MURDER, ART

Caught
Now You're Mine
I am the master of your whipping time
The smile
On my lips
The look of horror on your face
Self
Justification
Can't rid the sexual fascination
Can
You deny
My face of pleasure the gleam in my eye

You're nothing
An object of animation
A subjective mannequin
Beaten into submission
Raping again and again

Shackled
My Princess
Dangling in distress
Here
To discipline
My sole purpose never ends
Bleeding
On Your knees
My satisfaction is what I need
The urge
To take my fist
And violate every orifice

You're nothing
An object of animation
A subjective mannequin
Beaten into submission
Raping again and again

Slaves to my torments
Scream to your heart's content
Time and time again
Pleasure in inflicting pain
Power so intense
Trying to circumvent
Unadulterated battery
Manipulated reality
God is dead I am alive

...I posted it on this thread's "sister thread" and I'll post it again here. My "song of 2001", and current, "release" song...

A Praise Chorus - Jimmy Eat World

Are you going to live your life wondering, standing in the back, looking around?
Are you going to waste your time thinking, how you've grown up, or how you missed out?
Things are never going to be the way you want, when's it going to get you acting serious?
Things are never going to be quite what you want, even at twenty-five, you've got to start sometime...

I'm on my feet, I'm on the floor, I'm good to go
All I need is just to hear a song I know...
I want to always feel like part of this was mine
I want to fall in love tonight...

Are you going to live your life, standing in the back, looking around?
Are you going to waste your time? Got to make a move, or you'll miss out...
Someone's going to ask you what it's all about; stick around, nostalgia won't let you down...
Someone's going to ask you what it's all about, so what are you going to have to say for yourself...?

I'm on my feet, I'm on the floor, I'm good to go
All I need is just to hear a song I know...
I want to always feel like part of this was mine
I want to fall in love tonight...

Crimson, and clover, over and over...
Crimson, and clover, over and over...
Our house, the middle of the street, why did we ever meet?
Kick-start my rock and roll fantasy...
Don't, don't... don't let's start, why did we ever part?
Kick-start my rock and roll heart...

I'm on my feet, I'm on the floor, I'm good to go
So, come on Davey, sing me something that I know...
I want to always feel like part of this was mine
I want to fall in love tonight... here tonight.
I want to always feel like part of this was mine
I want to fall in love tonight...
I want to fall in love tonight...

Brain Sugar Silverginger 5

Brain, brain, sugar, sugar, mind, mind, honey, honey
Brain, brain, sugar, sugar, mind, mind, honey, honey

You play straight, but that was when you'd never met her,
Hey hey, you let her go.
And from kiss number one you know it's never getting any better,
Hey hey, you let her go.
'cause she prides the prima donna, on a silver motorway,
And she shines like Queen of diamonds on a rainy day,

Brain, brain, sugar, sugar, mind, mind, honey, honey
Brain, brain, sugar, sugar, mind, mind, honey, honey

There's no time to try to get your shit together,
Hey hey, you let her go.
She posessed the time you'd find you could never be forever,
Hey hey, you let her go.
But she plays the radiator, on a cold and windy day,
And the candy taste of freedom locks you here to stay

Yeah I downloaded that album a few days ago. I think Praise Song is best one on it by far.

My understanding is that particular song (from the "Wish You Were Here" album) was particularly about Syd Barrett. The stuff from the wall was Waters-centric and, I would suggest, not so relevant to Mr Barrett who, 15 years ago at least was alive and well and working as a gardener and part-time painter (apart from idiots like Capt Sensible trying to encourage him back to the shark pool).
