I was round Funkys house last night watching MTV2 and this band I had never heard of before came on called tenacious D.... I have got to say that the song that followed that was apparently the 'best song in the world' but not.

Jack Black and Kyle Gass really are a pair of comic genius'. The song was not only fantasticly inspiring but the video in true Dave Grohl style was just as amusing.

I think Shakey has the album already, so he probably could tell you a lot more about the rest of it. Apparently its full of little skits, he compared it to an Eminem album (On layout).

I'm off to buy the album this afternoon.

How can it be wasting his talent? I haven't seen a song/video combination as brilliant and funny as that in a long, long time.

I so think the comedy thing does overshadow the fact that he has a great voice on him

Funkodrom

Why? He sounds great, the song is great (and funny) the fact it's funny doesn't devalue the music or his voice.

Both measure up fantastically... I have only seen the video to tribute once and I noticed he had a phenomenal voice and it was very funny. Neither was overshadowed.

As I always say, If snap doesn't like it, It's gotta be good.

Black's voice is amazing, the guitar is fantastic, you could imagine the two of them making an opera.

The 3 videos are on tenaciousd.com if you are desperate to see them. I think the fuck her gently vid is a spumco production.

It's a shit children's novelty song of the worst kind, accompanied by a mediocre video at best.

Bought the new chillis album as well, you were right Shakey, it is nothing compared to previous stuff... I think I'd better listen to it a bit more...

My opinion has not changed... When I spoke to you the other day I hadn't even heard a single song on the whole album... One of my friends in Manchester recommended it to me and he said it was good, then Shakey said that he didn't think very much of it. I bought it and I agree with him...

Tell me where my opinion changed!

Ah... you said it was good. You didn't clarify that you hadn't heard it yet.

Quick review:

Tribute - is close to the best song in the world, better than Stonehenge.

Rest of the songs - pretty good, quite funny

Stupid annoying comedy sketches - annoying, I want songs.

Funkodrom

ps. Anyone else notice them checking Stonehenge with the "Where the sun doth shine and the moon doth glow" line?

Tenacious D is one of those special bands that come along every so often and redefine what good music is and can be. Even though the songs are stoopidly hilarious, i still find the anthemic, soaring quality in both music and voice to be inspiring. It reminds me of what arena rock sounds like.

To summarize: The band (in concept and lyrics) is jump-up-slap-your-grandma funny, yet the music (in composition and delivery) is surprisingly, and quite pleasantly, tranciendent on the highest of levels.

Funkodrom

I agree with that totally.

'Tribute' is genius. The video is wicked.
