Come and witness Unholy's mighty debut performance! You might need a car to get there, it's in the middle of nowhere and last train is 9:14 but it should be a great night and there are other bands on as well after us.

More info as I get it.

So is it - definitely - going ahead this time? :)

If anyone feels like spending the night in the bed I rogered my good lady in last Saturday- it's only a 5 minute drive from the venue.

Great news Funkomatic.
How are the rehersals going?
Do you have more than one song yet?

Some things are best kept to yourself, Alex... :smoke:

It's definitely going ahead at the moment unless it gets cancelled again. Unlikely. We're waiting for lineup confirmation. At the moment it's Us first, then Imperial Leisure an atmospheric rock-hop band from London then our friends in Left Side Brain who are putting the gig on then Reuben who I don't know much about. Original headliners Goat Boy have dropped out and we're waiting to see who's going to replace them.

Rehearsals are going well. We've had a change of singer and written a couple of new songs over the last few weeks. Tentatively titled Hundred Years and Carpet Burns.

Left Side Brain now have some mp3s on LoudMedicine. You can get to them from their site. http://www.leftsidebrain.com

Wow, I am really looking forward to seeing the mighty Unholy. I have heard so many great things. I hear that they are really popular with the girls and look like they have armadillos in their trousers.

Funkodrom
02-07-2002, 11:07:54
Yeah, except the drummer who is a complete wanker and everyone hates him. Especially girls.

Adam Bomb
02-07-2002, 11:16:18
Oh, that is quite different to what I heard. I heard that they are all male models except for the 2nd guitarist - who they have to keep in a sack because he is so riddled with skin sores and has a big nose and smells of fish.

Funkodrom
02-07-2002, 11:18:16
Yeah that is true but because he has a guitar the girls still like him more than the drummer.

Funkodrom
02-07-2002, 11:25:35
Did you see this:

Beer tonight, if you want. Lex's band have a gig somewhere. The Woking'nam girls are coming down and my brother and his friends are going.

Debaser
02-07-2002, 14:16:13
Apparently the Unholy used to be quite good, but then the guy who wrote all their good songs left, reducing them to a redundant backing band severly lacking direction.

Funkodrom
02-07-2002, 14:28:59
Tim?

Debaser

Go look in Counterpoint to see your happy birthday thread.

Debaser

Seen it. Replied to it. I'd like to thank the Academy etc etc

Funkodrom
02-07-2002, 14:57:23
Can you name all the people who've ever been in the band (first names / nicknames will do)? It's quite hard...

Can't believe we saw Nugget on the way to that last practice?

Debaser
02-07-2002, 15:03:00
There is only one problem with naming everyone, that guy who sung Dont Walk Away.

Otherwise

Jack "the lad" Steele
Keith "the" Faith
Nikhil
Adam Bomb
Sam
Phil
Tim
Matt
Thomas
Lee
Jay
Pete

Any others?

Funkodrom
02-07-2002, 15:04:24
Only the guy who sany Don't Walk a Way-AY. No idea what his name was.

I knew you were our biggest fan. :D

Debaser
02-07-2002, 15:05:33
Can't believe you guys have got through so many drummers.

Funkodrom
02-07-2002, 15:06:39
That's 6 singers, 3 Bass Players, 2 Guitarists, 2 Drummers

Debaser
02-07-2002, 15:09:59
3 guitarists. Actually.

Funkodrom
02-07-2002, 15:11:02
I couldn't resist that.

Debaser
02-07-2002, 15:16:20
I believe we've turned this once thriving thread into one everyone will ignore 'cos it's just me and you talking shit.

Funkodrom
02-07-2002, 15:18:05
They are used to that.

Lazarus and the Gimp
02-07-2002, 18:43:13
All those line-ups before your maiden gig? You're the Hawkwind of the new millennium.

Funkodrom
02-07-2002, 19:06:25
Good isn't it? :D We had gigs before. 4 in fact. 3 at The Stage and one at school. This will be our first gig for about 8 years, only 2 of the last gig line up surviving but that's a very, very good thing.

BTW, I read that as Maiden gig, I was getting all excited in a sad rock way. :o

Funkodrom, when does the damn thing start? How can you expect people to come see you otherwise?!?!

Funkodrom
05-07-2002, 08:29:46
I don't know yet. I'm trying to find that out and ticket information etc.

Funkodrom
08-07-2002, 09:21:40
OK here's the latest, doors open at 7, first band (us) 7:45. Tickets 4.50 advance, 6 on the door.

Line-up Throat / Goatboy / Left Side Brain / Imperial Leisure / Unholy

Debaser
08-07-2002, 12:24:16
I thought Goatboy had cancelled.

Funkodrom
08-07-2002, 13:01:10
It was Reuben that cancelled. I was wrong about that.

The Shaker
08-07-2002, 16:45:53
I was just idly flicking through
http://www.leftsidebrain.com/volume2002/index.htm

and noticed that the unholy have a very camp font there.
even the boring ones look more rock.

Funkodrom
08-07-2002, 17:45:44
I didn't even know they'd put that site up yet. Must have gone up today.

That is a gay font though, I'll send them the real logo.

The Shaker
08-07-2002, 17:48:32
The one with the intertwined carnations?

Funkodrom
08-07-2002, 17:53:32
It should be this one:

Funkodrom
08-07-2002, 17:54:07
I've got the black on white version at work.

*End Is Forever*
08-07-2002, 18:33:28
Did you give up trying to change the name then?

Funkodrom
08-07-2002, 19:35:32
No, we're going to do that after this gig... probably.

Sean
08-07-2002, 19:38:51
Do you really think you will be that bad?

*End Is Forever*
08-07-2002, 19:43:49

Funkodrom
08-07-2002, 19:45:46
We'll be amazing. Some band members don't like the name.

Lazarus and the Gimp
08-07-2002, 20:10:40
Sack them. Ingrates.

Funkodrom
08-07-2002, 20:58:43
It's an option. ;)

I wonder how many people will be at this gig by 7:45... hopefully a few more than just the other bands and whoever we manage to get to come to see us.

Box office link on that Left Side Brain page Shakey linked to if you want to save one hundred and fifty of her majesty's pennies.

Just realised today that I have to start the first song... actually as I start 6 of our 9 songs that's not that unlikely, I'll still be totally bricking it though.

Sean
08-07-2002, 21:03:29
Put more face paint on, then.

Funkodrom
08-07-2002, 21:53:20
Yes, then I wouldn't be nervous at all. :hmm:

*End Is Forever*
08-07-2002, 22:26:37
Wear a pink frock. Then you couldn't possibly get any more embarassed when you screw up the intro... :smoke:

Funkodrom
09-07-2002, 08:56:30
I was thinking about that. Laz mentioned that he didn't think the residents of Frome were ready for post modern irony so I spunked that idea off.

King_Ghidra
09-07-2002, 10:34:53
i doubt the residents of frome are ready for the 20th century never mind the 21st

Lazarus and the Gimp
09-07-2002, 17:28:07
I once got smacked in the face there for wearing slap. It's something of a sartorial backwater.

Funkodrom
10-07-2002, 08:26:35
Should be fun. :D

Adam Bomb

Funkodrom
18-07-2002, 17:54:35
Has everyone downloaded the bands' tunes and looked at the message board?

http://www.leftsidebrain.com/volume2002/index.htm

Sean
18-07-2002, 17:56:20
No, but that’s because:
a) I am supposed to be going to the Warwick Folk Festival to piss off Rod Stewart,
b) I leave for the airport early the next morning.

Funkodrom
18-07-2002, 17:57:29
I'm sure Rod will be really furious that you are there.

Where are you going? Anywhere more exciting than here?

Sean
18-07-2002, 17:59:57
Well, Rod Stewart is playing in Warwick the same evening.

Er, Spain somewhere. Details, schmetails.

Funkodrom
22-07-2002, 09:11:32
:D

OK, time for the Frome gig news update!!

Unfortunately the brilliantly named Goat Boy have had to pull out. They are to be replaced with local favourites sub luminal http://www.subluminal.co.uk/

We had a great practice yesterday followed by a nice band beer and meal. It was a lot of fun. I'm shattered from throwing myself around the rehearsal room for 3 runs through of the set. Oh and we're supposed to do a 30 minute set, we timed our 9 songs and it came out at 30 minutes 27 seconds. Total fluke!!!

jsorense
22-07-2002, 20:40:35
When you timed your set did you take into account the wild ovations from the screaming crowd that will erupt between each of your numbers? What will you play when they demand that you return to the stage or they will tear down the city?

Lazarus and the Gimp
22-07-2002, 21:34:29
Or for when the singer forgets the lyrics, resulting in an onstage row culminating with the drummer twatting the bassist with a cymbal stand?

Funkodrom
22-07-2002, 22:14:54
The singer might well forget the lyrics, he's only had 4 rehearsals with us since King_Ghidra left the band. He's picked it up pretty well though. We've written a new song with him which he basically improvised the lyrics too which we've finalised over the last couple of practices... We don't have that many lyrics and he generally recovers well from cock ups. Look out for me nodding frantically at him when his cues are coming up. :) Generally all the band fighting happens when we're not playing, when we're playing together we're having too much fun to fight.

Applause? That would be a bonus! Encore? We can't do one even if the crowd want us to. We don't have any more songs we can play and there won't be time.

I'm just going to try and really fucking enjoy myself. If the crowd enjoy it too then that's a bonus.

Funkodrom
24-07-2002, 15:51:55
We'll be onstage in 75 hours!

Lazarus and the Gimp
24-07-2002, 21:24:54
Was it an amicable split, or are King Ghidra's knackers still stored in someone's gig bag?

Funkodrom
25-07-2002, 08:41:43
Protein! Cool - nice Avatar. :D

Laz: Amicable but god knows where his knackers are.

protein
25-07-2002, 11:18:48
The Knackers are next to my snare. They make a really nice percussive 'skwut' noise. I also have a former band member bone zylophone.

Funkodrom
25-07-2002, 11:21:29
Who's member is it? Debaser?

Funkodrom
26-07-2002, 10:22:36
31 hours 24 mins!!!

Funkodrom
26-07-2002, 11:35:54
Long day tomorrow, I'm leaving at 9:30am!!!

Which is necessary for many reasons, the main one being that there are no trains arriving in Frome between 1 and 3:30pm. Buggers. So I'll have to try and be in Frome from 1 'till 7 without getting totally slaughtered. Could be tough.
