Older game, yet still pretty interesting. I may write a review about it.

The bullet time stuff is pretty cool, but sometimes the frickin' 3rd person camera view is a bitch.

I'm playing Deux Ex again while I wait for my new computer. :)

Trying to go through the game without killing anyone or knocking them unconscious. I made one exception with JoJo. I hate that punk.

I still wonder how you can get through the missile silo without killing Savage.

Not killing anyone? How sick.

On Expert level on Thief you were not allowed to kill humans.

Luckily (hah!) there were Burricks, zombies, spiders, plenty of ghosts, weird mage-type thingies, those guys with the swords and skulls, and walls (hey, by that time I was full of nervous energy).

Stealth games are no fun. Henece the reason my Jedi Knight 2 game stalled out when I got to the sneaky board.

Bah. Thief is one of the best games ever.

So good they went bankrupt.

After you get past the reactor, you can easily kill people in the stealth area. First, you have to kill those two guys after the reactor. Force pushing them into the reactor when it turns back on is fun. Then you head over to where the next alarm control is. Set up a sentry, and start killing everyone in the room. It's the only way I'm able to get the key. After that, you just remove the troops with the controls and kill about three more before the blackout area. The blackout area is the only place where you can't kill anyone because the guy at the alarm panel is behind the glass.

Now I'm on this level in Max Payne that consists of each room bursting into flames in about 3 seconds. In that time you must successfully navigate dark rooms where you have no idea where to go.

Which brings me to another topic....fun games that unfortunately have levels that, at worst, destroy the game or are so terrible they actually detract from the game.

max payne also has those absolutely fucking terrible hallucination/dream levels where you have to run through a maze while a baby cries...

but i still think it is an absolutely brilliant game, played it through twice, really really enjoyed it.

That level annoyed the shit out of me as well. If you stray to far from the blood you fall to your death. That shit was retarded.

System Shock 2 definitely has a level like that - the grinding teeth jump puzzle. So out of character with the rest of the game. If you time it wrong, or don't have a good enough manauvrability to move quickly enough, you either fall to your death, or get crushed to death.

Then obviously the Half-Life alien levels. I don't think anyone likes those levels.

Yeah, Max Payne is great. I just played it through again after finishing GTA3.

The hallucination levels are a pain, as well as the exploding restaurant level. Man, quicksave was my friend there.

The Half-Life alien levels were just a bit too different from the rest of the Black-mesa levels. It was like they'd tacked on another game at the end.

25-06-2002, 08:46:50
yup. A crap one :)

No atmosphere (literally :D), none of the suspense or fear factor of seeing freaky things in a normal environment; none of the satisfaction of fighting against the soldiers; and frankly, far too much super mario style jumping.

From sublime FPS to crap platformer in one easy step...

25-06-2002, 08:48:13
Fighting against the soldiers using the machine gun/greanade launcher was the best bit of the game anyway.

The alien levels just didn't have any redeeming qualities about them. They weren't innovative, they weren't fun, they weren't well designed. They were nothing. You could stop playing the game right at that point and not miss a thing.
