Having just ridden my luck in 3 games anyone +fancy some league action?
No point me winning all these friendlies without the chance for revenge when it matters.

Funkodrom
05-06-2002, 19:47:09
Yeah, I'm better in league games.

Other than the one against Guy where I'm 20-0 down and about to lose my last couple of men of course. An absolute slaughter. My initial position was bad and my tactics were even worse.

Funkodrom
05-06-2002, 19:51:36
And his were good...

The Shaker

Come on Guy, don't let him get any points :)

The Shaker
05-06-2002, 20:32:58
despite the fact guy gave his people no orders for 3 turns i still lost about 10pts trying to storm 2 grunts.

Guy
05-06-2002, 20:35:06
25-0 now.:)

Almost makes up for the pounding you just gave me in that game on arena. My first league loss. I definitely want a rematch, your choice whether we do the same thing again or not.

Guy
05-06-2002, 20:36:03
I am very proud of those last few grunts. Neither of them had more than 1 hit point left, either.:)

The Shaker
05-06-2002, 20:40:53
I'll just go for some sort of random map whatever i decide on the spur of the moment. :)

Guy
05-06-2002, 20:44:44
Cool, I'll begin rubbing my hands and cackling maniacally as I plot my revenge right away.:D

The Shaker

This will either be very poor or very good.
or somewhere in the middle.

Guy

Good, I'm glad that's sorted. I hate ambiguity.

I haven't played on arena? :hmm:

Yeah, very bad and I haven't even got anywhere to escape to 'cause I really am surrounded. I think it will probably be 30-0, everytime I move anywhere I walk round a corner into a grenade and if I stay still the same happens. I've barely even seen any of your units.

Mike, be glad you haven't played arena, that is one nasty map. There's no way to attack without losing a lot of guys.

I got lucky a few times in our game in that room to the right. I never would have thought I'd get all your grenadiers in the first barrage, and that one grenade you got down into my forces somehow missed killing or even hurting anyone very badly. I'm still not sure how that happened. You should have continued your first charge down the main corridor, though, I think that would have overwhelmed the couple of guys I had defending there before I could have done much more damage. I'm serious about wanting to play that one from the other side, though, I'd like to see what I can do with it.

Shaker, just recieved your latest challenge. One point maximum for units? That sound you hear is all my tried and true tactics smashing to pieces. Should be interesting.:)

Figured I would post my stats now because they won't look this good after my game with Rachel finishes. There should also be another loss to Shaker on there in the freindly row, but they apparently missed that one somehow.

30-0 final score against Mike. Although there were 5 points to go and I only killed a commander for the win. I guess you had two HQ's squirrelled away somewhere? Ah well.

At any rate, I've got room for some new challenges for anyone looking for a game.

Funkodrom

I can't understand what happened in that game. I started moving out of my deployment area and suddenly everyone was dead. I hardly even saw who was shooting at me.

Problem was I couldn't see who I was attacking and without the support from my grenadiers I knew that if I carried on attacking I'd be surrounded. I assumed all your forces would be at that end of the corridor. I didn't realise you could set up across the street as well... Oh well. There's only one way out of that military complex. My problem was that when all my grenadiers died in the first couple of turns I knew that all the guys I had in there would be grenade fodder unless I could get them out, problem was all you had to do was cover the one exit to the military bit and kill them all and you could have kept grenading the entrance as well.

I couldn't believe all my grenadiers died and I didn't get any of your units either. I couldn't believe my grunts didn't kill either of those snipers, I couldn't believe my commanders couldn't get a single shot on target... most of all I couldn't believe that wherever my men fled to after the initial chaos they ran straight into one of your units that killed them.

A realy, really horrible game for me that one.

I've been on the other end of a drubbing like that, it can take a bit of the fun out of the game. Most of my victories honestly come more from luck than tactics, which is one of the things I like about this game. It really doesn't take a good player to play a good game, a lot of it is just luck.

C'mon, Mike, send me a challenge. You know you want to.

Funkodrom
10-06-2002, 13:45:44
Yeah, I know. I haven't actually got any games at the moment (other than one with Rachel that has got lost and one with Shiny that I haven't received the first turn for... unless it's arrived this weekend when I haven't checked) so I'll probably send you one.

Guy

Arena does suck. It's one of the worst maps I've played yet. Be prepared for some bloody battles. There won't be any shutouts on this one.

Damned lurker tactics, she hid in the shadows until my marines got complacent and then pounced on them. I played rather poorly and she played rather well. If not for the fact that she seems to enjoy grenading her own troops, I might not have scored any points at all.

Oh, and Rachel, you can be sure that a rematch will find its way to your inbox sometime very soon.;)

I don’t believe that lucky shot that Guy just got on my Sniper. Grr.

Guy
17-06-2002, 18:09:35
Actually, I would just say that I've learned pretty well how you think and was able to anticipate your move. I also can't help but notice how that didn't help me at all on the left side of the map where you wiped out my whole defense team there.

Arena sucks, there is absolutely no way of making an assault without loosing a good percentage of your men.

I think I might be getting a little burned out on this game. I might take a break from it once I've finished my current games, or at least scale back a bunch. It's still fun to play, but I don't look forward to it anymore.

Guy
17-06-2002, 18:10:40
Er, that was directed at Funkodrom.

Sean, what the hell do you mean, lucky?;)

So it's predictable that I'd totally ignore the fact I'm walking my men into a totally surrounded death trap? Oh god, I really am bad. I had massively overwhelming forces on the left hand side. Commanders and grunts vs Grenadiers and snipers in close combat is a always going to favour the commanders... even then I still see more grenades coming round the corner at me. Anyway, that small victory doesn't matter 'cause I lost units there as well and I've only got about 3 units left now. :(

I know what you mean about getting a little jaded but I've played this game more than any other PC game for years.

Guy
17-06-2002, 21:40:45
:)

Actually, I just thought, from our previous games, that since you'd made an attack from that doorway in the previous turn without getting hit, a repeat was pretty likely. I was mainly just hoping to wound your grenadier, but thought there was an outside chance that you would see the success you were having on the left and try to join forces.

This map helps, too. There are really only three options if you want to attack, and since I knew what you were (or weren't) doing along two of those routes, that was the only one left to cover and I've found that "when in doubt, bomb the hell out of it" is a policy that works well in this game.

It turned out much better than I had hoped.:D

I think my feeling burnt out is coming from the fact that life in general's just been very busy for me lately and trying to squeeze this into the cracks usually ends up being more frustrating than fun. I still enjoy the game, and I agree, it's the most fun game I've played for quite awhile, just that I feel like I want to go do something else for awhile.

I doubt I'll actually quit playing, though. Beating you is too much fun.:p

Funkodrom
18-06-2002, 08:17:23
Basically I wasn't thinking very well. My only consolation is that I seem to have remembered how to play in my new game against Sean...

Shame it's too late for my games against you and Shakey.

Guy
18-06-2002, 14:18:00
Bah! It's never too late. Witness my victory over you on Front line with two wounded grenadiers and a grunt after playing like a moron for twenty turns. Hmmm, that probably didn't help your morale at all, did it? Sorry.

Anyway, you still stand to do a lot of damage, I didn't set up to defend around that corner.

Funkodrom
18-06-2002, 14:50:47
Yeah but I was in a really, really bad position in that game. All I had was my missile tanks and two critically injured exes and the missile tanks were both nearly dead so I couldn't risk exposing them... I was just hoping you wouldn't attack until the end of the game.

I would but I only have one fighting unit left and he's running away to get repaired.

DRAW!! HARR HARR HARR!!

Actually, LSN said that you won, probably because I hadn’t scored any points for about 20 turns. But the stats thing said it was a draw :D.

Guy
19-06-2002, 21:20:57
:D

23-13 on the last turn. This is the first game I've played where it's run out of turns.

What did you have left, anyway? Other than your commander and medic, I haven't seen any units of your since my sniper got your grenadier.

Sean
19-06-2002, 21:25:21
I had five grunts and a medic next to two HQs in the far corner. I never moved the grunts :p.

Funkodrom
20-06-2002, 08:17:48
If you run out of turns the person who has the highest score wins.

Sean
20-06-2002, 08:37:44
Even in an HQ game :hmm:?

Funkodrom
20-06-2002, 09:34:04
Interesting. I don't know. Who got the points?

Guy
20-06-2002, 15:33:56
I was up on points, but was awarded a draw in the statistics. I think because it was an HQ game and no one's HQ got hit. If this had been a wipeout game, I think what you said would have held true. I hope it's true, anyway, otherwise all someone who's losing a wipeout game has to do is avoid the other player until time runs out and they'll get awarded a draw.

Now down to a single game, with Shaker. Wipeout game on Bunker where we both choose Mechs and almost identical teams (all hunters and executors). I think I might be willing to lose just to end this one. It's like watching two rival squads of stormtroopers battle. Everyone moves slow and can't aim for crap. Currently 7-6 out of 15.

Funkodrom
20-06-2002, 15:37:53
It is, I've won a wipeout game on timeout. You can get a tie if you have the same points and the time runs out (did that on my second game vs. Shiny)

I have a game against CUmber where I have a sensible force and it looks like he has a million flying things.
