Up shit creek! :brwncard: Contractor came yesterday...a general contractor that fixes stuff. He fixed the door, he fixed the leaky toilet then he saw that the cold water shut off was leaking. Many trips to the hardware store and hours trying to fix it...we have been without water now for 18 hours. He left at 9:30 last night with it still broken. Had to call a real plumber whose rate is $70 an hour including travel time. That guy won't be here until afternoon. I WANT A SHOWER!!! Flushing the toilet would be nice too.

Yersterday afternoon
The plumber he says

This great information
Cost me half a week's pay
And the toilet blew up
Later on the next day

One is sleeping, one is at the radio station and one is in California. I managed to scrape up enough bottled water to make a pot of coffee. At least one bright part of today :D

One "advantage" of my western migration is that I have become a septic system guru. Way too much "hands on" practice. :(

For most of our life together zpapa and I have been on a well and septic. It's nice having city water and sewer now :D At least it is when the plumbing isn't broken.

WE HAVE WATER! Showers for all :D

Be there shortly.

We had the plumber in last week to repipe the entire house. We'd been without hot water, working showers and one vanity faucet for 18 months.

I took my first shower in over 500 days on the weekend. It was glorious.

I wondered what the smell was around here...

For the record, we could still heat up water on the stove and fill buckets. But it was a pain in the ass.

Well, why did you put the bucket there then?

Why wait 18 months?

I briefly thought about DIYing several bathroom issues, but thought better of it... :D

Plumbers generally don't like to work for free. We had to wait until we could afford it. And we wanted repiping rather than someone digging up the foundation to get at the existing pipes, especially since we thought there might be two leaks.

So it was a costly venture.

Thankfully we didn't need to repipe the house. This is good since we had to have two walls rebuilt from rot. Indeed it was joy!

If I could have gotten away with burning it to the ground, I might have seriously consisted it.

If not for those meddling kids.

Re: wall rot, one bathroom wall is a bit nasty, and might need some extra attention.
