Usually I am about the last to know anything, but I will try anyway. Has this site been posted before? (Too lazy to check)

In its purest form you can guess based on the picture without manipulation.

In level 1 cheating you can pivot around 360 degrees without moving anywhere.

In level 2 cheating you can move from place to place searching for clues, primarily road signs.

In level 3 cheating the internet comes into play. You can start googling the names you find, deciphering which language they are in and using another map site to pinpoint the location.

Right now (sixth try) I am a level 2 cheat. I can generally hit 1,000 points, more if I am lucky.

First try:
Level 1 cheating for 4, Level 2 cheating for 1.
You got 7955 points in total.

I'm level 2 cheat! It's not cheating though, it's a judicious use of information!

Hmm. I meant 10,000, not 1,000. :o

7955 was great for a first try at Level 1.

My first try I had a little problem confusing Africa with the Australian outback. And I guessed the Russian steppe correctly, but was still at least two time zones away.

Game finished!
You got 10415 points in total.

(no cheating)

That was my 4th go though. First couple of times my inability to guess Australia ruined my score.

Rachel and I have been playing this for a few months. She taught me a rule...if you don't know where you are it's probably Australia :D

My experience is to guess the unknowns as Russia ... unless it's vaguely Canada like.

8551 points in 'pure' mode.

Weirdly, every location was in Canada, or Alaska!

Wow! I could never get that high at level zero.

Twice now a picture has come up in an exact spot where I have been. Freaky.

A good botanist would have a real edge. I worked on a paving crew a few years as a summer job when I was in university. Since then I tend to remember features of roads (like width of shoulders, line patterns, and the width of the road itself) and that has helped me out a bit.

My top score on pure mode was really through blind luck. You hit a couple a few hundred km away and your score rockets.

8224, guessing without cheats - Funko's right about nailing location - I got about 3/4 of my points on two near misses.

Missed one by an entire continent. Romania looks like rural NY in autumn?

Also, I got "central Australia" totally right and still missed the actual location by about 600 km. Australia big.

600km in Australia is virtually nothing.

OMG you can zoom the guessing map in!

Gonna call that a cheat too?

17-07-2013, 17:15:19
10624 level 1 cheating

I got 13k once, without a cheat. I probably average 7-8k though. Brazil gets me a lot.

I've gotten 30k and such but I level 2. The game was made so you can move!
