View Full Version : I've joined the Orioles!

Well, the Sports & Leisure Orioles in the Cardiff Softball league to be precise.

I was with the Cardiff Red Sox last year but we won the league and it's not as fun as being on a struggling team that the manager has to rope in his wife and daughter to play (it's mixed) just to make the minimum numbers, so I thought it would be fun to join them instead.:D

I made 3 catches at 3rd base and got a run, though I have to remember not to keep hitting the ball directly to 1st base because even though I'm fastfastfast, even I can't run there quick enough...:(

We lost of course, but it was good fun losing!

I used to be good at the "old guy" technique of hitting to short right field and having the ball land fair and hop sideways out of play for an easy single.

Back in the days I was awesome at striking out, not sure why the orioles didn't call me

You guys play softball!?! Wow...last time I tried that I pulled both quads on the very first play and hobbled around in serious pain for the next 3 weeks. My outfield days were over...
Since I'm sure you have no batting cages, try to hold off on your swing a slight bit, and maybe increase the angle of the swing. You're getting too much of a jump on the ball. Or just do exactly what you're doing, only lean back a bit more in your stance, so you get to it a little later. But unless you're leading off, you will now hit into the double play. So I still recommend leaning back and swinging up a tiny bit!
