They may park the cars behind the house or in front of it. (behind is terrace, front is balconies... I guess...)

Even more depressing than the sameness is the complete lack of privacy. Looks like MDA is right about needing nets for jumpers - I see a lot of red spots on the ground below.

It's really koel for an architect. 1 plan, 1 million houses.

I hear some really dumb ones do 1 plan per house.

i even know one really really dumb guy who do 10-30 plans for 1 house.
You know him too btw

equality at work plus everybody has a house.
must show it to the communist party they'll be thrilled

hmmm although there's still unequality.

the houses next to the mountain must have a waaaay better view
(the others will see each others butss at the windows)

china is awesome. they snap their fingers and build a town like that.
like the borg.
altough child labour etc

and their clothes have toxic dyes, not worth it.
and their metal accessories for the black and decker snap easily.

Seriously, I don't see room for cars nor is the place designed for mass transit so is everyone supposed to bike to work and the store or something? In 20 years will upwardly mobile Chinese want to live in such a place?

It's destined to become a slum.

From the pictures I'd guess there are about 3m between houses on the side, and about 10-12m between the fronts. I guess parking is on the side, maybe before the front.

Btw your usual US suburban hell doesn't look much different.

What would you think about my guess for the lateral and "road" width between houses? About right?

Btw your usual US suburban hell doesn't look much different.

Usually the lots are larger, there are sidewalks for pedistrians, bike lanes for cyclists, typically a green patch with trees seporating the road from the side walk, street lights, fire hydrants, zoning so that there are corner stores, typically (at least on newer subdivisions) a nearby commercial district for shopping, most of them in this state also have to incorporate non-retail business office sites as well as affordable housing (like Apartments) into the subdivision design besides just McMansions, neighborhood schools with in walking distance covering K-12, if it's a big subdivision then the developers also have to pay for a junior college as well as police and fire stations, oh and in the last 20 years there have been park and open space requirements typically covering 1/4th of the total amount of space being developed.

There is a ton of stuff they require developers to pay for in exchange for getting their building permits.

If both houses do that then you'll barely be able to get a moped between them. It would certainly block access to emergency vehicles (police, fire, ambulance, etc...).

Any way you sort it this is a piss poor design. :vom:

Hell, I don't even see proper drainage for rain or stormwater.

Dyl Ulenspiegel

I don't know how it looks to you, but I get the impression they are still working there. So sidewalks, street lights etc may be included. We also don't know about infrastructure or greens.

What we see are cramped lots and a lousy monotonous design. Really so alien to suburbia?

Like Irvine, California:

http://maps.google.at/maps?q=irvine+california&hl=de&ll=33.686599,-117.796142&spn=0.00166,0.002411&client=firefox-beta&hnear=Irvine,+Orange+County,+Kalifornien,+Vereinig te+Staaten&gl=at&t=h&z=19

For something more atrocious, although this is a more urban hell, I suggest the Seattle 4-Pack:

http://maps.google.at/maps?q=47.670081,-122.392346&ll=47.669888,-122.392192&spn=0.00095,0.001206&num=1&t=h&gl=at&z=20

Yup, that's 4 houses on one lot, built together around the parking access in the middle. Bet Mr_b will love that... ;-)

Yeah, suburbs suck but at least the Irvine example has parks, a swimming pool, a neighborhood school, a play ground, tennis court, etc... Then you'll notice each house has at least a two car garage (I'd wager some have a three car garage), side walks, green spaces, and you'll notice the roads are a lot wider so that even with a car parked on each side there are still two standard sized lanes open for traffic. That means even suburban residential roads are effectively four lanes wide but two of those lanes are taken up by parked cars (one on each side).

WRT Seattle, sure, I don't like that design but look 1 block NW and you'll see single family homes so at least they took the time to require different sized homes at different price points so at least rich or poor everyone can find a home to fit their budget all in one neighborhood. That's a good thing. Yeah, small homes packed into a tiny lot suck but at least it is a modern house which even low income people can afford without moving to a different city.

Irvine is solidly upper middle class, so filthy rich by chinese standards.

Hardly surprising, it is what you'd expect Dadun village with money to look like.

Also, few developments worldwide are as car-centric as the US. My neighboorhood in Mozart City for example has often roads about 8-10m wide, one garage per house. Houses selling for 4000-5000€ per m2. If you look at the pictures from China, the side setbacks should be sufficient for parking, about 2.5-3m.

Didn't China become the world internet superpower?

That's a huge Call Center, and the operators all work from home.
Also, they buy eveerything on the internet, so they don't need cars to park.
