Good day for staying inside.

29-10-2012, 11:01:39
I'm all out of beer! When can I start looting the neighbors'?

29-10-2012, 12:24:35
When the electricity goes out

29-10-2012, 13:59:11
Looting can start whenever. Don't need a storm for some good ol' fashioned looting. Or robbery as they call it.

This is not a detail you want to pull:

From the First Army Division East on Facebook:

Soldiers of the 3rd Inf Reg. continue to stand guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, despite the worsening weather conditions surrounding Hurricane Sandy. The tomb has been guarded continuously since 1948.

they really should be tied down and provided snorkels

my dad was in the 3rd infantry, he told me two things: never volunteer, and guard duty sucks

Looks like MDA will get a direct hit! We will just get hurricane force winds and 2 feet of snow in the mountains.

Lots of buried moonshine

29-10-2012, 19:09:25
good moonshine won't freeze, though!

wind is already getting semi-serious, supposed to get worse tonight

29-10-2012, 19:16:52
We have twelve bottles of wine, a case of Yuengling and many cans of soup. All ready!

29-10-2012, 19:23:02
I still have no beer, no way I'm going out for it now.

I was one of the lucky government employees scheduled to telework, so I have to try to get something productive done while nearly everyone I might need to communicate with has the day off.

As it turns out, you can get a lot done and done fast when no one is "communicating" with you, but I don't know how much more I can do without actually communicating for legitimate reasons.

And you have no beer.

30-10-2012, 11:30:09
It's just getting light out. It's raining, still a little bit of wind, but nothing to worry about.

Not too much damage. We have one and a half trees now, might have to remove the half. The bit that came down may or may not have hit the fence.

I'll walk out into the street later and check to see if the shingles are still on the roof.

Places west of here (West Virginia) got snow instead of rain, and nearly as much wind.

edit: roof OK; currently cold, light rain, light breeze; never more than a flicker of power interruption, buried power lines rock

edit2: wife now cold and unhappy, the hot water disappeared mid-shower, pilot light must have blown out

Be careful.

And get beer.

30-10-2012, 15:46:48
Yeah we got snow, down here in Morgantown not as much as in the mountains...a few inches not feet. Wind was "brisk" but not too many trees down. We escaped the badness.

30-10-2012, 15:50:37

Apparently that pic is a real pic, but not of the current conditions.

30-10-2012, 16:47:16
What a mess. What a complete mess.

30-10-2012, 17:20:13
MDA, I just read that you have a flood warning. Everything ok?

30-10-2012, 17:28:42
We have a large collection of aggressively maintained storm water retention ponds behind the house, and they're nowhere close to full right now. There are some road closures elsewhere in the county, and about a third of us are without power. We've been lucky.

Light rain and gentle breeze at the moment.

The implication of the subject is that the rest of us can go die in a fire, I suppose. Or an earthquake, since we've had 2 in two weeks. Where's our Romney disaster relief bus?

31-10-2012, 09:42:11
Or that your troubles aren't being covered by UK news. :(

Pfft. Earthquakes. Only your wildfires and Hollywood freaks are worthy of press coverage.

Walked the dog last night, lots of tree and fence damage around the neighborhood, the place is a mess, but not enough damage to really complain about when you look at what happened east of here.

31-10-2012, 13:35:18
MDA you can come over to the flat land, we have plenty of beer over here.
last evening i went with an italian junior architect to the pub to celebrate a deadline.
The guy is all green now (like good ól Drekkus in Germany) telling each 5 minutes, I'm really sick now and i wont drink Bokbier anymore.
it's a good thing today it's "talk loud day"

This is Rockaway.

This is Rockaway Townsquare Mall.

My brother reports that the line for one of the only working gas stations in the region wraps all the way around the mall. Five hour minimum.

01-11-2012, 18:38:47
Ouch, glad that your brother is alive though!

01-11-2012, 18:54:06
Ditto what zmama said.

Several people I know haven't even been able to leave their homes b/c the streets are not cleared of trees and fallen wires. No need to worry about gas for them. Many (most?) have no heat and it's going to get cold over the next few days.

01-11-2012, 20:10:14
I heard one of those Abrams boys is without power and running low on fuel as well. :(

02-11-2012, 14:23:13
Yes, but a neighbor is embarking on a relief expedition to fabled Connecticut, in hopes of returning with gas for all.

02-11-2012, 14:27:28
WHAT?!?! People being self reliant and working together as a community to solve their problems? The government won't stand for this!!!!!!

02-11-2012, 15:56:27
Are you still out of beer?
man man man the huge manatee

02-11-2012, 16:07:31
 I got my beer Thursday night. Sam's Winter Brew and some Goose Island Pale Ale.

Lots of trees and fences damaged, and someone's SUV got squashed pretty good. All in all, nothing you could complain about without feeling incredibly selfish.

02-11-2012, 16:26:04
It's not like someone made Han shoot second.

03-11-2012, 19:37:48
Here ya go MoSe, I found a chart!
