i downloaded this book on my nice little smartphone in english and i can undestand around 95% of it.

i'm at the beggining but it sounds really outdated.

trilibiozanomoidian trillion peoples thrust their miserable bodies to the shores of the so called "european continent".

i know he talks about american indians and australian aborigines etc but i think that's where the interest stops.

This book has been totally trashed by serious academics. The guy should keep his writing to his birds.:bash::shoot::gasmaske_mad:

How do you know what serious academics think?!

Are they seriously serious?

Academically academic.

I thought most of it was really cool and thought provoking - especially the geography stuff. What were the parts that the seriously serious academics didn't like?

I don't know what "serious academics" think, it's like when people say "serious economists" happen to think your policies are rubbish... how convenient... anyway it doesn't pretend to be a "serious" history book, it tries to find a global narrative to explain the contrasting wealth of nations

the book is fine, enjoyable by its scope and breadth and indeed quite thought provoking (especially about the future), even though its main punchline, geography makes history, was done by Napoleon quite a while ago

If you want a "serious" history book that's quite enjoyable, go for any of Tom Holland, this guy has a gift, and Fernand Braudel, the master of them all (start by "grammar of civilisations")

There's a possibility that jsorense might be a (not very) serious academic in the area. Or at least he has hung around with some. ;)

I found it to be boring, impenetrable claptrap due to the lack of explosions and titties.

Ah, that will be why the "serious academics" didn't like it.

there are explosions!
I remember a few graphs on demographic explosiosn, and on use of energy per head... very spectacular

merci pour les suggestions i'll check them out

i got a bit bored by it btw. partly because of the apparent absence of essential boobies/explosions partly because it's so much you can read about the polynesians

You insult explosions with your statement.

i accidentely stumbled on this
http://www.polynesia.tk/polynesiangirls.html

despite the farsical value in the way it is written, please note that it says

that if a girl is beautiful then she belongs to all.
I find it very important that they specify this

maroule

nice

I didn't have much success explaining girls, beautiful or not, that they belonged to me in the first place, but maybe I should wear a banana belt

Venom

Is banana belt a french colloquialism for cod piece?

maroule
18-09-2012, 09:19:06
no no, I was talking literally of a banana belt, à la Joséphine Baker
but the Vahiné wear a palm leaves belt

paiktis
