IIRC we had a thread about how Argentina could enter the tri nations just like Italy entered the 6 nations

the level of chlallenge, the extra costs for the long flights, etc...

well, now it happened
http://www.sanzarrugby.com/therugbychampionship/

tomorrow in Capetown, Springboks v Pumas

so, now the top 10 in the rankings all have their super-tournament to play in, right?

wrong: Italy fell out of the top 10, overtaken by Tonga
:D

1 NEW ZEALAND 91.43
2 AUSTRALIA 87.05
3 SOUTH AFRICA 84.87
4 ENGLAND 83.09
5 FRANCE 83.03
6 WALES 82.26
7 IRELAND 79.85
8 ARGENTINA 79.25
9 SCOTLAND 77.97
10 SAMOA 76.23
11 ITALY 76.03
12 TONGA 74.79

If these rankings are as worth as the FIFA ones, then it means nothing

Note anyway how, top 3 from the south apart, England France and Wales are closely ranked, while there's a distinct interval before we find Ireland
Pumas are very close to the Irish team, and ahead of Scotland.

If Italy takes part in the 6 nations, then maybe Samoa and Tonga should enter a southern 6 nations too!
Of course the relative dimension of the two polinesian island-states won't make it feasible economically....

BTW

Baires to Capetown = ~6900km
Baires to Sydney = ~11800km
Baires to Wellington = ~10000km (to Auckland a bit more)

Capetown to Sydney = ~11000km
Capetown to Wellington = ~11300km

So, assuming an antarctic route (no idea actually) NZ is nearer to Argentina than Capetown! (west SAF would be nearer tho)

all in all, Argetina will have the same flight burden as South Africa
