I wonder if there's some rpg out there (say from 5 or 6 years back) that resembles in some way dragon age origins.
I squeezed skyrim dry, I tried to get into mass effect but it's clearly not for me (how do you describe that thing? a shooting rpg? ) plus dragon age 2 was a big dissapointment.

I wouldnt want to go as far back as say neverwinter nights havent played it but it's old).

I also never played a japanese rpg, i wonder if those are any good?
i think i've exhausted the western ones.

Baldurs gate 2.... Either of the starwars knights of the old republic series. Very old but very good.

oblivion would be the obvious one if you like skyrim,

Fallout (either the original isometrics or the newer 1st person action rpgs)

Planescape Torment is probably the best RPG I've played - available from gog.com

The Gothic series is meant to be pretty good - I've only played the 2nd one but enjoyed it.

The Witcher also has quite a following but I've not had the time to play it.

Try Jade Empire :p

It's more action oriented and IIRC you do not have a party so I'm not sure if that qualifies as "resembing in some way dragon age origins" (I guess not ) but it's good storytelling and the change in the environment is nice. Loved it.

Oh, but you said you didn't want to go back as far as neverwinter nights so that's a no. Sadly Jade Empire is from 2005 :(

Jade Empire is more like Dragon Age 2 than Origins. The spiritual mother of Origins was Baldur's Gate, and you can't go wrong with those. Even if they may fall just outside your 5 or 6 year guideline. Other than that, either of the Knights of the Old Republic games are good, and play very much like Skyrim or Oblivion on a simpler scale.

Dude, more than just outside his window. Baldurs Gate was 14 years ago, BG2 was 12 years ago...

I thought you were just getting so old things from 15 years ago seem like they were last week.

Neverwinter Nights was 2002. NWN 2 was 2006.

thanks for the suggestions!
actually i've played bg2 and believe is the best RPG I've ever played.
Haven't played torment yet, will eventually get to it.

oblivion i've also finished that one.

erm and now to a rather apocalyptic revelation (there's a pleonasm there if you get it)

ok: i actually got hooked on mass effect.... Badly.....
finished 1, half way on to 2, already have 3 waiting....
:o

but fantasy setting remains my favorite.

ok mass effect is very rich content wise.
it's a game that tries to catpure a lot of things at once and succeeds.
it's very big but sometimes you feel you spend half of gaming time just watching cutscenes.

it's infuriating that you need to play mulitplayer to increase galactic readiness.

a very good trilogy with a lot of dlc-promo sillyness that pisses you off.
