Quite enjoyed it overall. Some parts of the plot left me scratching my head but a good cast and it looked great and had that creepy Alien feel to it. If you rated it 5/10 god knows what you would rate Alien 3 which i saw on tv a few weeks ago and seemed awful. 3/10?

sums it up

Indeed, couldn't really put it better myself.

Ridley Scott is one of my favourite directors. Arguably he's had 30 years to come up with a decent prologue to Alien. Instead you get a lazy half-arsed story telling effort that's not in any way original and thinks it's being clever but patently is not. The visuals are stunning - that's about it!

Funnily enough, I was quite disappointed with Alien 3 the first time around because of what I suppose I was expecting after Aliens. When I saw it again to give it a second chance, I enjoyed it. So I would say 7/10.

I would say a 5 or 6 as well. Very cool, and very stylish. But ultimately lacking cohesion and a sensible plot. Also the pacing was really weird.

Watch it, but don't pay full theater price for it.

Wow, that's harsh.

I saw it now. It wasn't harsh. Apologies.

Ridley Scott was my favorite director for a time, and he still authored my favorite film ever...

but Robin Hood :vom: and now that? really? he can't work with a decent screenwriter anymore? Inception has proven you could do a blockbuster with a fairly complex and orginal story, so he has no excuses

indeed
it was a huge blow when I first saw it, and although I'm less impressed today, I'm still amazed by how good/cutting edge/modern it looks

and it has the best "murder of the father" scene
