Just removed the tip of my left thumb and thumbnail while using a vegetable peeler to clean the rootlets off. Resisted the temptation to set hand on fire so I'd have less of a was was.

A couple of tablespoons of blood is a small price to pay if the horseradish is good.

You will pay with more than a couple of tablespoons of blood if the horseradish isn't to my standards.

It's hot enough to set fire to a peasant's home.

I never did as a kid, but now it's excellent freshly prepared (grated fine with some vinegar). The store-bought horseradish sauce is terrible.

The fresh stuff is (so far) both hot and sweet. I've been mixing it with some soy and coarse mustard and putting it on grilled fish.

I'm hoping I left enough behind for a big harvest next year.

I think it's almost impossible to kill once it's in. :)

Good, because I have a black thumb.

Mint is a nuisance in sandy soil. Good thing it can actually be used for something.
