all the seeded Non-Champions made it, no overturn
amongst the minor associations Champions, Plzen and Malm÷ threw off K°benhavn and Maccabi Haifa
Thanks to Platini's reorganization couple years ago, we have the two above minnows instead for instance of Twente and Rubin which provided interest and thrill in the past edition. Oh well, good for Sweden and Czechs and for trying to widen the group stage participation to those countries too instead of the bloated Netherlands and Russia..... bah

anyway, despite the result, the closest tie was Arsenal's one
I still can't understand how they didn't lose 1st home leg wide and large
a fair result would have been then 2-2 in 1st half, then 1-4 in 2nd half, total 3-6
Udinese squandered their good deal of chances on home ground retour match too, incuding a deflected penalty. Gunners managed to endure the storm and strike back, in the end they must have deserved qualification.

Had Gunners tumbled out, Serie A Champions AC Milan would have climbed up into Pot1, where instead Italy is represented only by Inter and at bottom spot too.
Three english sides in Pot1, two for Spain, and one each Germany, Portugal and indeed Italy.

Thanks also to K°benhavn elimination, we have Basel and BATE in Pot 3.
While teams like Borussia Dortmund (German Champions) and Napoli start from Pot 4.
Wow.

possible Group of Death?
ManU/Barša/Real
AC Milan
Zenit/Ajax
Borussia

it's hard to pick a weaker team in Pot2, let's go with Marseille according to coefficient

possible dream (or boring) group
Porto, OM, BATE, Otelul

we'll see this evening

Really good game yesterday Udinese vs Arse. Well until arsenal's 2nd goal anyway, then it was a bit over.

Yeah good game.
On the 2nd goal Benatia was outpaced so badly by Walcott I felt sorry for him.

Gunners, who had to qualify to Group Stage (and risking a lot too) might turn out the only EPL side to win their group
With probably 2 each from England, Italy, and France in Pot2:
- Inter would be the group winner with the highest chance to pick a ManU or Chelsea (2 out of 5)
- same for Arsenal to pick an italian runner-up

If two or more teams were equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following criteria would be applied to determine the rankings:
1.higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the teams in question;

So with a 0-0 draw Chelsea will go thru even with a lower gd than Valencia on away goals rule?

EDIT: Ok it seems so, there are indeed what if explained in that link
