My mum is in the hospital recovering from a tripple + 1 (how do you call that dammit) bypass operation. She is in the IC for 5 days now with ups and downs.
Just came back from my visit this afternoon and she lost the strenght to fight.
So now there are 2 options:
1. encourage her to fight back and recover so she can be that jolly person again.
2. just tell her that it's ok to go.

my ratio tells me to go for option 1, my heart (funny pun mrB) goes for 2.

advice please

Honestly, tell her both.

Remembering that bypass patients often get a deep depression.

*hugs*

Triple +1 is quadruple...

And that's the only question I can answer. :(

mr_B

exacltly the answer i was looking for Maaik, quadruple even funnier than chipknip

I don't want to interrupt a seriously serious thread... ...but what is "ratio"?

I don't know how to answer the non quadruple question either. All I can add in that respect is that my great grandmother had alzheimers so bad that we all wanted her to go just cos it was so bad on her. All I know is it's not a good place to be from either side. :(

for me, 1 would have been the heart option, and 2 the rational one

sorry pal, afraid i can't be of any help
:(

just go with what you feel/think it will be best for her, provided you can figure which level of recovery can be hoped for

I had an old relative draggin on more than ten years suffering of rheumatoid arthritis, after her husband passed away
she spent say 30 minutes per day rejoicing our love, and the rest of the day wailing for the excruciating relentless pain (IIRC the treatments known at the time, which her general health condition could endure, were not effective), and regretting she survived her man so long
I still don't want to trace a balance between the two states. Of course we never ceased to express her our wish she stayed with us as long as possible, but at the same time in doing that we felt we were more selfish rather than loveful

as I said, i can't be of any help
sorry mate

can't be bad to let her know both things, but be a jolly Mr. B and cheer her up (not with hamburgers)

for seriously serious advice, you should never listen to me

I'm hoping for a happy recovery.

Extremely hard to offer advice on such things, but propably to keep fighting?
My grandma suffered this last days unfortunately and she lost speech it was a frightening thing. I'm also all the time in the hospital.
I wish for strength Mr B :)
I also brought the SO to see her for the first time to remind her that there are things to hope and wait for and that life goes on and not give up but the lion's share of care is being shouldered by her two daughters.
These are extremely difficult situations.
Also never lose sight of the big picture, of life in general?
My grandma finally spoke and she started to recover but I was 24/7 with her, not going to job, abandoning all other things.
Strength and courage and it is this sort of situation when the the numbers matter... (the number of people around to help).
Very challenging.

Zmamm, the feeling depressed after a by pass was right on the spot, she was very relieved to hear that.
I gave her some hard words this eve and she never saw those ones coming, she is going to fight now.

Mum is now in the Hospital in Roosendaal to recover.
I know it's payback but she really is driving me crazy.
maybe Bert was ok but she definitly needs an Ernie now, good thing I bought her one when she was in the hospital last december. yesyes she really knows how to fok up my vacations and when i told her that she laughed(in a Venom kinda way).

mr_B

Or she is a clever little female devil and she acts like she does not remember.
