It's back folks. Yes, probably far too early to consider your line up but interesting to look at the players values for the coming season. It appears to be exactly the same format and scoring system as last season. :)

I think I reactivated the old league for this too.

But, they aren't going to change prices before gw1 are they?

Funko
25-07-2011, 13:20:15
Don't think so. Prices already updated from last year. I guess some new players will be added.

If a player gets transferred to a bigger club they'll stay the same price (that's always what's happened before anyway).

Fistandantilus

Good. It's the first time I auto-fill my team for lack of time (will transfer players in and out later) and forgot how it worked.

Walrus Feeder

I'm still expecting plenty of activity in the transfer market. Don't seem to be that many world class players coming into the Premier League. Who knows, we might still end up picking Fabregas and Tevez come Saturday 13th.

I gave up in about November last year. Time to make more of an effort this year I think.

Walrus Feeder
07-08-2011, 17:42:59
Don't say that. It makes my victory last season feel more easily earned, ha ha.

I've had a look a the player lists tinkering with my squad and about half the players are injury doubts!

That's because they are all dodging pointless international friendlies.

Walrus Feeder

Anyone else noticed despite over 250,000 managers bringing Aguero into their team his value hasn't risen above 11m? and no other player values have changed either. Maybe they've put a freeze on values changing until Gameweek 2 also. Helps me a little bit the unlimited free transfers thing as already made 1 change and now have Etherington injured. Probably means we'll all have the same core players though by week 3 or 4.

Funko
18-08-2011, 07:27:26
Yeah, I think they have.

Fistandantilus
19-08-2011, 15:33:35
Even if this is a special case I'm in favour of unlimited transfers in the first couple of weeks. With the transfer window still open is a pain to know who's starting and who's not.

I almost always used the wild card anyway as I end up selecting players who get sold or benched :nervous:

Funko
19-08-2011, 15:54:00
if it's combined with no value changes and no money being made or lost from transfers it means it'll be harder to accumulate value

Fistandantilus
23-08-2011, 09:52:59
I does not have to be combined with that.
Besides extracting value has never been very important to me. Both times I won I ended up with like 3M+ in the bank I did not know how to spend.
I think a problem with that is the +- 0.1 limit on player value change per week. It makes initial prices way too important, bargains remain as such for a looong time. Ditto with too expensive players.

The real constraint to me has always been the number of transfers allowed per week.

Funko
23-08-2011, 12:47:44
It used to be +/- 0.1m per day, is it now per week?

Fistandantilus
23-08-2011, 12:53:38
Well, ok. Gameday, still most of times is just per week.

Walrus Feeder
23-08-2011, 21:03:16
Yeah, still no player value changes. I see there's no drop down menu at the side to show what players values go up and down by each week either. made a few changes for Gameweek now though after my rubbish start. Didn't help me not being able to change my side around on the Friday before it started.

Mr. Bas
23-08-2011, 22:39:45
Thank god for substitutes - my two incoming substitutions were responsible for half my points this week.

Funko
24-08-2011, 07:25:00
Well, ok. Gameday, still most of times is just per week.

No, it used to be per calendar day, so you could go up 0.7m a week.

It doesn't say on the website how they do that currently.

Fistandantilus
24-08-2011, 11:47:47
I see. Last year I don't remember any player changing value more than a +- 0.1 per week other than the occasional 0.2 I thought was for gameweeks with two games played... I think I just assumed there was that cap in place while that was not the case then

Fistandantilus
24-08-2011, 12:25:14
Btw, current price has changed for some players now, altho apparently you can't sort by it anymore in the transfers page :(

11-09-2011, 10:40:01
A reasonable start for me. :)

Walrus Feeder
11-09-2011, 11:32:16
Whether you're doing well in this just appears to be mainly about whether you have Rooney or not, and especially if you had him captain in either of the last two games where he's scored a hat trick. I can't remember the opening weeks of Fantasy Football being determined so much by one player.

*End Is Forever*
17-10-2011, 14:03:59
After a good start it is going a bit pear-shaped.

The bonus points are a crock of shit though. Nothing for De Gea this week?

Funko
17-10-2011, 15:47:35
Moving up the table. Slowly but surely. Inexorably?

Walrus Feeder
17-10-2011, 18:31:06
A very frustrating season so far this. Agree with allocation of Bonus Points. They mainly seem to add them to players who got goals or assists anyway. Suarez, Adam and Enrique all played better than Gerrard whose goal was a poorly hit free kick that only went in because Giggs jumped away from the wall. I see in the Wigan v Bolton game Kevin Davies misses a penalty but still get 2 bonus points and after a great match for Mata against Everton he gets no points. Nonsense.

Fistandantilus
17-10-2011, 18:35:49
They are biased towards certain players but it has always been like that.

Funko
18-10-2011, 07:41:40
They are based on the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index.

This is how it's calculated:

http://www.premierleague.com/page/EAIndex/0,,12306,00.html

Team of the week:

http://www.premierleague.com/page/TeamOfTheWeek/0,,12306,00.html

I think the "bias towards certain players" in the past was true when it was done by sports writers, might now be that "certain players consistently perform well" (and they might match some that the sports writers picked)

Funko

It also shows what each player scored each week in the stats view (ESP column)

I know they are based on the PPI. They are still a crock of shit.

Funko
18-10-2011, 12:46:02
It's irrelevant how they match up to 'real life' that's not the game. The game is pick players who score points.

Walrus Feeder

Those with Van Persie in their teams have profitted over the last few weeks and he's an obvious choice to pick as captain you. I suffered another week of farce with my captain, picking Silva with Aguero as vice captain and surprise surprise Silva starts on the bench for once and comes on when the game is over and only gets me 1pt whereas Aguero gets 11. Could so easily have got 5 points for Scott Sinclair if he had scored that chance against Utd. Pretty happy with my squad now though so expect to move up from 10th and put an end to this underacheivement sooner rather than later!

Funko

Walrus Feeder

One of those weeks where you not only had to have Van Persie, but you had to have him as captain. 46pts from player? Incredible. Think most managers had him though. Interesting picking players at the moment as not necessarily the most expensive players you can rely on to get you points. Happy enough though, gone from 9th to 3rd in the space of a few months,

Up to 5th!

Van Persie is just in incredible form. 22 goals in 24 games, plus 8 assists and 30 bonus points. Those are Messi/Ronaldo level stats.

Surely a first win for Craig eh? Mike's up there challenging again. Happy with 3rd overall after a slow start and equaling last years 1st place was always going to be tough. Rarely seemed to get my captain selection right but happy enough overall. Will be able to pick Reading players next season too!
