:lol::lol:

I didn't bother watching the game 'cause I thought it would be boring. Stupid me. Well done Italy.

well done indeed, well deserved
they actually also deserved to beat Ireland earlier
it's good for rugby, but also for France, which will be forced to adress its mediocrity, rather than paper over it

And the difference between the French result and the Welsh result was Bergamasco suddenly figuring how to be above average at kicking.

I also think Italy having two teams included in the Magners League has helped their development massively.

Not sure about Wales beating Ireland though, everyone is patting them on their backs saying they got away with it. Isn't that called cheating? :(

Also, commiserations to Scotland for coming close to stopping England. Perhaps that result would have been different without that yellow card.

France is confusing. It's mostly the same squad that won the Grand Slam last year isn't it? I don't really understand. I don't know whether teams like Italy/Scotland are really improving or if the other teams level is going down.

The idea that this England team is in with a chance of a Grand Slam seems ridiculous. I don't see any of the NH teams doing that well in the World Cup at this rate.

Someone on the TV this morning saying last time England got a Grand Slam was in 2003, also a world cup year, when of course we won but to compare those two teams is ridiculous.

it's confusing to us too
the walloping against Australia clearly affected this group of player

England is clearly above NH teams, and fairly clearly under SH, so I'm waiting for the big three SH teams to be semi final contenders without too much trepidation

England are above how France are playing now, I don't think they are above how France could play if they got their shit together.

I can still see France causing someone a big problem in a one off knockout match in NZ.

I can still see France causing a quake in a one off knockout match in NZ.

England won playing badly.I'll take that over playing well and losing every time.

I don't think we will win but I can see England doing pretty well - Think NZ's time has finally arrived at the WC though.

I've been impressed by Australia, personally

They were good against you, but we absolutely hammered them in November.

Proof England is a better team

maroule
15-03-2011, 11:27:29
not proof at all, but England is clearly superior right now, and will probably come up to the WC in a much better psychological shape than France (where players and commentators seem a bit shell shocked since last saturday)

maroule

well, what do you know... funny how all the assumptions were turned around...

England was pedestrian against France (in the first half), against Scotland and clearly inferior to Ireland, a team bested by awful France...

... and awful France played pretty ordinary and still steamrolled Wales, which had a claim at being the winner of this year's tournament...

in the end, the WC will probably be pretty exciting because we just don't know what to expect from the NH... reliably unreliable...

I knew Wales were going to lose from the singing of the anthem. No passion.

I'd say we can rely on the fact that the NH will be lucky to get one team into the semis TBH...

I told you all that England team wasn't that good.

MOBIUS

Well they did struggle to beat Wales and Scotland, so we thought you were just stating the obvious... :D

Wasn't obvious enough for maroule to notice. :)

... or for the english press... there were a lot of super positive articles up until the Irish defeat... which was, again according to the press up until saturday, pretty unexpected...

Funko

Yeah, the English press are always the best judges of our national teams!

That said, I didn't think we'd play that badly. I did think Ireland would raise their game. And with a young side in a big game against a very tough team away it was always going to be a tough ask. I thought a narrow win for either team was most likely. I certainly didn't expect us to get a thrashing (don't think anyone did!).

Six Nations is more interesting these days, every team is one bad performance away from getting beaten by any other team. That hasn't always been the case.

You are all middle-managers attempting to connect with actual humanity through attempting a "blokey vibe". I can think of no words more damning.
