Now, in a paper on the Arxiv server, researchers from Hong Kong and China have calculated the conditions required to create a laser-based "pull".

Rather than a science fiction-style weapon, however, the approach would only work over small distances.

Surely they mean small stellar distances.

Can't wait to start pulling satellites out of orbit and hurling them into terrorist training camps.

Great, so soon in Australia we'll see sharks with frikken laser beams on their backs pulling swimmers towards them with their tractor beams.

Only at subatomic distances, and I'm thinking sharks that small aren't really much of a threat. Unless they're like that urine-seeking fish in the Amazon that swims up your urethra. That could put a wee bit of a damper on your Australia Day beach party.

The West Country has been working on a tractor beam for many years. Far easier for ploughing the fields ;)
