View Full Version : Going, going...

Well, well, well... 3 holes in the ground with water at the bottom.

Finally had enough of driving buses. Too hard by far remembering to put the hand brake on all the time. So, about 11 weeks ago (to be precise, 11 weeks and one day) I contacted a friend of a friend who was recommended as a very good builder and asked him to fix my place up ready for sale.

From the 11 weeks that it took, you might think that it almost involved building the place from scratch. Nope, just a lesson learned not to use "friends" to do work for you.

Anyways, finally got close enough to get real estate agents looking into selling it, even if the builder was dicking around more than a sailor on shore leave. First open house was to be this weekend. Bloody thing sold (well, contracts signed anyway) last wednesday (I think, memory a bit vague there).

Got basically the price I was after and seeing as the new owner to be had already sold his place (settles this friday), he is looking for a quick settlement. With a bit of negotiation, I let him move in early and my place should settle on friday the 5th November.

My vague plan for now is to wait until settlement, then give two weeks notice at work. This should place me finishing work at or on the 19th of November. Now, I have to be in Sydney on December 17th for Bon Jovi, so my traveling plans will have to wait until after that I think. Most likely in the new year.

Not entirely sure where I am going to travel, but I am thinking about a round-the-world trip. Quite a few things in Europe I'd like to see, as well as a few outside. Egypt is very high on my list, as is Machu Pichu. And I think that a week on a beach somewhere would be nice (though I could just do that back in Oz of course). Going to be a little odd as I have never traveled by myself before, but should be fun anyway. Even tossing up a silly idea of following the Ashes series around Australia this summer, though that would likely be impossible just in terms of getting tickets.

Job wise I am still in a bit of a quandary. Right now I am thinking probably either a paramedic or fire fighter. Both of which require me getting fit. The former rather fit, the latter extremely fit. That will be a challenge as bus driving has encouraged in me unfitness levels previously unheard of.

So, that's the update. Hopefully in 12 days my house will settle. That very day I will resign and by November 19th I will be an unemployed bum. For a while anyway. Then I'll spend a few months getting fitter (I won't be Ambo or Firies fit that quickly), seeing Bon Jovi and then probably look at traveling in the new year.

I wouldn't even come close to making that show Mobius, the damage was minimal. :(

Thanks all.

Funko & mr_G - chances are I will almost certainly make the UK (thus blowing my weight luggage limit in wine to save my ding ding). Not sure about where else in Europe though. We'll definitely have to have a meet though and there'll be a few rounds on me. Hopefully before we leave the pub this time. :nervous:

Also missing why Funko is laughing at mr_B saying he'll see me in the UK. I think I must have missed that whole joke along the way. Or I'm just having a bald moment...

jj an in joke. The number of times he's come to the UK are dwarfed by the number of times he's claimed he's going to come.

It's alright, Jsorense. Once you've been there, there's very little in Cali to make you want to go back. :p

There's a point. Not entirely sure I'll be fit enough with a month off work to do that trail properly. And taking the train half way would be cheating.

Only a week to go! I was talking to a bloke at work and joking that since I have that friday off, i might go into work so that when I get the call that the place has settled, I can instantly hand in my resignation to save wasting a day. :cute:

Greg W
03-11-2010, 03:09:31
Well, she can't travel, Boo. She won't leave her kids behind for one, and for two, she's about to become a grandmother around Christmas time. On the one hand, me traveling may be a bad thing, but on the other hand, getting out of the way might be a good thing until things settle down.

And with me likely starting on a new career soonish, this could be the last chance I get for a while. Not planning on anything more than a month or so at the moment, but that's all still open to discussion (read: me being told what I can or can't do).I hear from my source that the Geneva airport is full of chocolate!

I'm sure worth a visit :)I'm not sure if Zmama is inviting me to go visit her there or not. I'll assume not and that it was a typo. :nervous:

Well, my house sold yesterday! Today I have $81 in my account, when i had almost $4k yesterday!

And no, that's not how much should be in there. By a loooooong shot. Stupid bloody conveyancers not putting the cheque in my account! :bash: :shoot: :tizzy:

MOBIUS
10-11-2010, 10:29:01
I was going to say - normally you don't have to pay someone to buy your house...

Greg W
10-11-2010, 11:43:06
No, but you have to pay the real estate, the conveyancer, usually parts of the body corporate/water/council rates, and god knows who else.

Today my accounts show a rather better balance. Though apparently $20,000 is what was owed to various peoples as part of the settlement. I know the real estate was almost $10k (and that was cheap, could have paid $17k with some), but I have no idea where the other $10-12k went. There should have been maybe a couple of grand in conveyancing plus assorted bills. I can't think what else there should be.

Taxes )stamp duty) should be paid by the new owner. The bank may have charged me a bit, but almost $10k? Bloody hell. I need to see what it says when I get the disbursements details tomorrow.

Mind you, not even the $81 in my account is now listed as available funds. Tough if I need some money before the settlement clears. :(
