Ronnie O'Sullivan had to be persuaded to complete record-breaking 147 (http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2010/sep/20/ronnie-osullivan-147)

"I wasn't going to pot the black because I asked and was told there was no break prize for a 147," O'Sullivan told the BBC. "What's the point of making a 147 if you're only going to make 4,000?"

"But the ref played a guilt trip on me and said, 'Come on, do it for your fans'. And I thought, 'OK, because I haven't got long to play anyway, so I might as well go out on a high.' But I wasn't going to pot it because four grand, once you've paid the taxes…"

When asked whether he needed the money, O'Sullivan responded: "Twenty-five (thousand) would have been nice so I could have gone on holiday."

What an arrogant mercenary bastard!:shoot:

Isn't it amazing to be so good at snooker, and to have made so many 147s that you don't even need to bother finishing them?

I basically agree with this:

OK, that and this: http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2010/sep/21/ronnie-osullivan-considers-snooker-future have basically brought me round. It certainly got me sitting up and taking notice of snooker again. I watched his break and it didn't seem such a big deal - especially when you realise he's done that in the past. Also, the 4K is pretty derisory when you realise some of the prizes there have been in the past.

Although snooker is currently in the doldrums, such a low prize leads me to wonder if the promoters are trousering all the profit at the expense of the players...
