I find it a little disturbing that french was in the top ten of most popular subjects.

Funko
24-08-2010, 15:44:48
"most popular" in this case was defined as "most students taking exams in it".

No-one* likes French it's shit.

*ok, I don't.

It used to be the default second language subject, but these days people are realising it has little use, many other languages are more important. eg. Polish.

I studied French at school and it has been useless. German would've been very useful. Or Spanish or Italian. But French? No...

Provost Harrison

Hall, who has a background working in engineering, said languages were still important for business although English is spoken widely. "You do need to be able to communicate with people in their own country in their own language," he said.

Meh.

It used to be the default second language subject,

do you mean, second after English Language?
or, the second Foreign Language? (in such case I figure second after German)

Cheshire Cat
25-08-2010, 07:14:55
many other languages are more important. eg. Polish.

a 12% raise in students taking Polish (according to the article) means there were 8 students, and now they raised to 9

BTW, where's LoD?

Yeah, it is shocking to me that they aren't now. I did German though.

The study of 2 foreign (eu) languages is still mandatory in Italy.
However since last year there has been a reform that allows to replace the second foreign language with more english hours and pretty much everyone went for that.

Next step will be to replace english lessons with "surf the web for porn" hours, people would speak better english for sure.

Well after Istanbul, Mexico City and Naples, I am now in the far more exotic and exciting Horsham...so no more travel for me for the rest of the year. So Italian wouldn't really help me around there :)

also something the scandinavians and the dutch understood

I know you did, I was listing the French redeeming features (wine etc and landscape) /

France has more dramatic landscapes than England, you have 3 hectares of nice little hills in lake disctrict (the lamb bordello) and the rest is as flat and boring as holland

So how was :shoot: in Vegas?

yeah, I didn't debrief about that did I

it was both great and bad

I had a wonderful time because it was away from the day to day grinding reality, plus 500 overworked consultants drinking on their employers money always gives interesting group dynamics

but for god's sake this place is an affront to taste, ethics (I don't mind prostitutes everywhere, but dressing all waitresses like prostitutes is a bit too much, even by my relaxed standards.. never seen a place so demeaning to the woman kind as a whole), ecology, common sense etc. The sense of absurdity is even stronger than I remembered.

Yeah but I'd have to deviate from the "every single minute of 10 days in London planned" scheme (I'm not kidding) my gf made. That's trouble :p

Same goes for Flanders. I've had to drive across Belgium on many occasions...god is the countryside there boring!

Some of the most beautiful I have seen was when I was in Naples, around the Amalfi Coast or Sorrento Peninsula...

It is also notesworthy to drive at some nothern italian road at 180 km/hour and have a lamborgini stuck at your tail in order to overcome. it was a beautiful although thoroughly illegal site. (as was i). the overcome was woooosh. bet they went at 240 km/hour.
