An hour after game and I'm now back to normal. I couldn't believe my eyes at the first goal. And after that holland finally started playing normally.
The red card was just a very dirty attack on a playing on the ground.
The last 10 minutes gave me a constant heart attack. The fuckers just wouldn't make that 3-1 goal.

First half was all Brazil, second half holland was the better team. But I'm still not sure if the best team won.

I felt sorry for Uruguay...Holland played well but were lucky in some aspects of the game, Van Bommel seemed to be immune from fouls, maybe if he had been suspended for that match things would have been very different. There was some pretty blatant simulation by Robben too.

regarding Mark van Bommel: I guess if he weren't dutch i would hate him too. But the fact remains that he is one of those players that will lead the way. He has been playing like this all his life, and is always on the edge. Knows what he can and can not do. But that kind of killer mentality is not what people want to see.
But even in the 70's with all the total football Holland had players like that, who kicked a player out of the stadium if need be. That has been the main critique in Holland in the last 20 years, a lack of ruthless players that make up for all the technical skill.

He is on his team-mates' shoulders and he is holding that trophy with passion. If we win I want that picture with me holding the World Cup, having hopefully scored in the final.

Your name will always shine
In your little ships so neat
You beat the silver fleet
The mighty silver fleet from SpainFrom the wiki: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piet_Pieterszoon_Hein)In 1628, Admiral Hein, with Witte de With as his flag captain, sailed out to capture a Spanish treasure fleet loaded with silver from their American colonies and the Philippines. With him was Admiral Hendrick Lonck and he was later joined by a squadron of Vice-Admiral Joost Banckert, as well as by the pirate Moses Cohen Henriques. Part of the Spanish fleet in Venezuela had been warned because a Dutch cabin boy had lost his way on Blanquilla and was captured, betraying the plan, but the other half from Mexico continued its voyage, unaware of the threat. Sixteen Spanish ships were intercepted; one galleon was taken after a surprise encounter during the night, nine smaller merchants were talked into a surrender; two small ships were taken at sea fleeing, four fleeing galleons were trapped on the Cuban coast in the Bay of Matanzas.

After some musket volleys from Dutch sloops their crews surrendered also and Hein captured 11,509,524 guilders of booty in gold, silver, and other expensive trade goods, as indigo and cochineal, without any bloodshed. The Dutch didn't take prisoners: they gave the Spanish crews ample supplies for a march to Havana. The released were surprised to hear the admiral personally giving them directions in fluent Spanish; Hein after all was well acquainted with the region as he had been confined to it during his internment after 1603. The treasure was the company's greatest victory in the Caribbean.

As a result, the money funded the Dutch army for eight months allowing it to capture the fortress 's-Hertogenbosch and the shareholders enjoyed a cash dividend of 50% for that year. He returned to the Netherlands in 1629, where he was hailed as a hero. Watching the crowds cheering him standing on the balcony of the town hall of Leyden he remarked to the burgomaster: "Now they praise me because I gained riches without the least danger; but earlier when I risked my life in full combat they didn't even know I existed...". Hein was the first and the last to capture such a large part of a Spanish "silver fleet" from America.

Less than 12 hours to go! I wonder if mr_B is hammered yet? And if he will sleep with any married women if the Netherlands should win? Or if they lose? And if anyone else has a royal couple cool enough to carry on the way the Dutch Royals did at the last match?

I'll be recording the game and watching it when I wake up as I have done for every match from the semis onwards. And many of the earlier matches for that matter. Stupid early morning kick offs. :bash:

I actually heard a quote before the final (which I recorded and just finished watching) that Cruyyf didn't want the Dutch to win because of the way they were playing! Damning condemnation indeed. :gasmaske_puke:

Spain were by far the better side, though having said that, up until 90 minutes, the Dutch had arguably the best chances. Mind you, they were lucky not to be down to 10 or maybe even 9 men. Nigel de Jong should have been sent off for that Cantona style kick and one could argue that van Bommel deserved to be sent off too for a challenge from behind when he already had a yellow card.

Sneidjer(?) was very quiet and only really Robben looked dangerous for the Dutch. Mind you, most of the time he just ran the ball at the three or four defenders around him. And yet, he still created the best chance of normal time. Excellent save from Casillas.

Shame that the final turned into a game of who can kick the Spanish the most without getting sent off, but there you go. Fabregas coming on really changed the game, giving Spain the creativity and/or composure that somehow they had lacked around the edge of the box. He almost created more good chances by himself than they had had all match. And his pass to an otherwise very quiet Iniesta created the winning goal.

ah well, I was going for the Dutch, but I do have to say that the best team playing the best football won. Just. But they won. Congrats Spain, Euro and now World Champions!

I had beer and pizza, so it was a great game by those markers.

Spain seemed very, very patient. My wife said that she didn't think the flying kick to the chest guy meant to hurt anyone.

General comments on adult soccer/football (or stuff I don't understand because we didn't do it that way):

The kind of contact that makes these pussies fall and writhe around in agony on the ground is hilarious. If I'd taken dives like that when I played as a kid, I'd have been benched, then laughed off the team, then branded with a pussy nickname for the rest of my years in school.

Never, never would coaches have tolerated a "we have a 1-0 lead, all we have to do to win is not let either team play the game as much as possible". It's one thing to burn time with the ball in play, another to have the guy farthest from the throw-in or corner trudge across the field to take it, over and over again.

While dives and time wasting seem to be an generally accepted part of game strategy (which seems unsportsmanlike to me, if you hadn't guessed), I was struck dumb when Spain's goaltender mishandled a ball passed back to him, leading to a corner. The corner was immediately passed to him while the Netherlands retreated up the field. The sportsmanlike thing to do when the other team makes a mistake, in this case, is to give the ball back?

Like baseball, soccer is fun to play, but not as much fun to watch (neither is horrible, but they both lose something).

Let me say I'm saddened they won because at least on the basketball court they've demonstrated total gay actressness

Bah. If you call Robben a diving whiny pussy, I wonder what you make of Iniesta, he was orders of magnitude worse. Don't get me wrong, great player, but despicable attitude; diving, play-acting, asking for yellow cards, and in the final actually getting away with Van Bommel-like fouls. In fact, if Robben actually managed to fall over, Puyol would have gotten the red card he deserved.
