This really has to be seen to be believed.

Imagine an attempt to emulate the TV series "Rome" being made on a budget of 12.50 by people whose only other work was designing rendered intros to PC games circa 2001 (and are still using the same computers and software). Who believe action sequences are at their best when pitched halfway between "Crounching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and the 1960's "Batman" TV series. Who acknowledge that they have have no idea what to do with plot, dialogue or character development, and so plan to distract the viewer with tits. Loads of tits. And whose entire knowledge of Roman history comes from fast-forwarding between the rude bits in Caligula.

If you're into exploitation TV, it's brilliant. If you aren't, it's not so much "bad" as "really weird."

I really enjoyed the first one!

Looking forward to more tits, hacked bloody limbs and crap CGI for the weeks to come...

I thought it was a good trick to get tits into the "previously on Spartacus" bit.

They had that even on the first episode?

Let's just say they hadn't discovered Brazil in Roman times...

The channel behind this in the US are now co-producing Torchwood. Should be interesting!

Season finale next week for what has become a surprisingly gripping storyline with lots of sub plots and intrigue - certainly way better than I expected it to be, as per my initial post!

I forgot to mention that the last episode was truly an orgy of violence of masterpiece proportions!

This is back tonight with a prequel!

http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/tvandradioblog/2011/mar/21/spartacus-sky-one-gods-of-the-arena

It did turn out to be really good, not just ludicrously violent and smutty.

Already set to record - as if I was ever likely to forget... :D

Yeah, contrary to all initial indications at the beginning, it did turn out to be very good indeed!

Hopefully this series will prove to be even better as they'll have a bigger budget to work with - though I was expecting a sequel rather than a prequel.

Ah, I see. Sad that Andy Whitfield won't be continuing in the part. :(

Yeah, but Batiatus and Lucrecia were really the stars of the show anyway.

The last series incredibly managed to balance "gripping story" with "completely ridiculous". Wonder if they can pull it off again?

That was awesome - more please!

Having Temuera Morrison in the show is worth it alone! :D
