Time waits for no one, or nothing, or event horizons, or tardis [tardi?], or digital watches, or old age; believe me.:(

Coming from Asher, I thought it was already NHL Draw time, and that the first pick was a terrific hockey prospect named Muhammad.

I wonder:
are there Muslim Ice Hockey Players?

The Emirates have indoor downhill ski resorts, I bet they're plenty of Ice Hockey rinks in the desert

Why would I participate in a spectacle expressely directed at further marginalising an oppressed minority?

Because secretly you love it?

But as to oppressed minorities, where do you stand on the treatment of gay people and females in strict Islamic countries? Do you believe in utopian rainbow hugs for everyone, no matter their world view of others? Is it possible to have a truly liberal society that defends all rights when people advocate extreme positions that inherently discriminate against others? Do you defend the rights of religions to discriminate on religious grounds? If not are you supporting their oppression?

Feel free to answer whichever of those gets you wettest.

I think the first (real) muslim hockey player was just drafted in the top 6 by Toronto. There was concern about how he'd play during Ramadan, but he was good enough not to care.

I’d hazard a guess this isn’t about mocking an oppressed minority, but rather about giving the finger to people who think the appropriate response to someone’s exercise of his or her freedom of expression is to kill them. If enough people tell them to fuck off with that nonsense, maybe they will.

He's sometimes depicted as a flame, so I guess he looks like Aredhran.

Fun fact, more Lebanese live in Canada than Lebanon.

I would have thought they'd be considered Canadian, but I'm a dumb cracker.

It's all a bit of a red herring because we're not living in strict islamist countries, are we? At least I'm not. I live in a country were muslims are routinely discriminated against, ethnically segregated, and bullied by mainstream society and racist thugs to different degrees. Thus they also have no influence whatsoever on the treatment of gays and women in my particular part of the world.

Let them hold their opinions - that would probably be a lot less radical, by the way, if they wre accepted more readily by the rest of society - and go after the people with real power instead, who actually make life shitty for women and gays.

Which, valid points notwithstanding, is still an avoidance of the questions.

I don't claim to have an answer either btw, but it intrigues me that your immediate reaction to an Islamic-baiting exercise is to think how horribly put upon the poor Islamic minority in your own country is, rather than seeing it as a comment on the views of Islam and how they conflict, seemingly irresolvably, with the laws of liberal society.

And re 'let them hold their opinions', well i think this is less worrisome for political cartoonists than 'their actions', i.e the threat of a murderous response to their expression.
