I heard on the news that currently Kewell, Emerton, Bresciano and someone else, forget who, may have been Garcia as mentioned in that article... were all injured when named.

Kewell is arguably our most talented player though. If he's fit, we have to play him. Only Cahill and maybe Schwarzer would come close to the same levels of automatic selection.

Harry Kewell is your best player? Lolz.

Even if he is fit in time for the World Cup, you know he'll pick up another injury within about 35 minutes of his first game.

Wow seriously? I thought Cahill was way better than Kewell?

I certainly agree with you fist

I did say most talented and I'd stand by that. When he was at his best playing for Leeds, when he got his contract with Liverpool he was a brilliant player. I remember having a convo with Funko at the time about him where we agreed that he was arguably the best left sided midfielder in England at the time. Yes, above Giggs.

Unfortunately injuries have been very unkind to him, but he seemed to have improved with a move to Galatasaray and hiring his own Physiotherapist to live nearby in Turkey. From what I could tell, he'd had a very good last season and a half with very few injuries, until a few months ago.

I'd still argue that he's more talented (naturally gifted if you prefer) than Cahill though. On the day that Cahill turns down offers from AC Milan, Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Barcelona, as Kewell did to join Liverpool, then I'll agree he's more talented than Kewell. ;)

And don't get me wrong, I think Cahill is a very good player. But Kewell at his best is Australia's (admittedly rather poor) version of Messi.

I don't recall that conversation, he was very good in those days. But better than Giggs? I do say a lot of retarded stuff though, that wouldn't be the most retarded.

Patrick Vieira and Samir Nasri left out by France (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/world_cup_2010/8676453.stm)

Vieira ... was a member of the sides that won the 1998 World Cup in 1998

 REALLY?

whodathunkit!

Viera being left out is no surprise.

Shit, and I was gonna guess 1994! :(

Actually, the more I think about it, it may have been when his English/Australian playing future was coming up and maybe we were arguing that he would have been the best English left sided midfielder at the time had he chosen England.

I dunno, something like that, but I do remember Giggs being a part of the convo.

Our opponents are falling like dominoes.

Ballack - out.
Rene Adler (Germany's #1 keeper) - out.
Christian Traesch (German midfielder) - out.
Pretty sure Germany had someone else ruled out too, but stuffed if I can find their name right now.

And now - Micheal Essien (Ghana) - out!

Fistandantilus

Funko

Gerrard's ok.

Not sure Warnock's ever actually played for England has he? Certainly not a big issue.

And now (an admittedly understrength) Serbia lose 0-1 to New Zealand! And Dragotinovic (or something) is out for Serbia too. Dropping like flies, I tell you.

Understanding English (http://www.easypooltutor.com/articles/3-how-to-use-sidespin/60-understanding-english.html)

I would advise newer posters not to use english until they have a good understanding and enough experience with the basic

Are you sure your English is Right, jsorense?
Is it high or low?

Actually I just learned that:

English or Sidespin is an advanced technique in billiards.
You can apply english or sidespin in a number of ways.

You can hit the cue ball on the left side which is normally called LEFT english
or you can hit the cue ball on the right side normally called RIGHT ENGLISH.
You can also apply the stop (center ball hit), draw (below center hit) or follow (above center hit) with english.
English applied with draw is normally called low english
while english applied with follow is called high english.

:D

God, I hope too much can't be read into that game against the USA! We were terrible, the USA could have scored 5-6 goals pretty easily. About the only good thing was that we created a few good chances. The downside of course being that we didn't put more of them away.

But they certainly exposed our defence, which has been the one good thing in our recent performances. In our previous 18 games, we had not lost a game and only conceded 9 goals. From the looks of that game though, that will change. I now rate our chances as pretty low to get out of the group, whereas before I had slightly more hope. Especially as Emerton and Kewell have had no game time in our warm up matches.

USA are a good team, it's no shame being outplayed by them.

Who did you play in that 18 undefeated streak of yours btw? :p

Hmm... the official website lists the following:

Denmark (1-0)
NZ (2-1)
Indonesia (1-0)
Kuwait (2-2)
Oman (2-1)
Oman (1-0)
Netherlands (0-0)
South Korea (1-3) LOSS!
Ireland (3-0)
Japan (2-1)
Bahrain (2-0)
Qatar (0-0)
Uzbekistan (2-0)
Kuwait (1-0)

So that's a loss to Korea in September 2009, only 7 games ago.

I could be wrong, just remembering a comment I heard during the match commentary. Though I coulda sworn we went undefeated through our Asian Cup Qualifiers (the majority of our recent games). I'll have to go check. Mind you, funko's two lists are slightly different. Let me see...

Greg W

Definitely heard something wrong, as they also lost that game against Kuwait that was 14 games ago (you listed 1-0). Was only 8 goals conceded in those matches though. so maybe it was something to do with that...

Oh well. :clueless:

I just hope it was an off day against the US. I have to, cos if we play that way, we're out in the group stage for sure. We just had no defence against the counter-attack. Terrible. :(
