So, I have a membership to Love Film and have been exploring the Norwegian film industry lately...

First up was Max Manus (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1029235/), which was a film about the eponymous Norwegian resistance leader in German occupied Oslo. Very good film indeed. 8/10

Second, in keeping with the WWII German theme, was Dead Snow (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1278340/). A film about some medical students going for a ski holiday and awakening a long forgotten menace: Nazi Zombies!!! Very silly. 7/10

Any other Norwegian gems out there...?

(Disclaimer: I am not a movie buff and have only seen two of the below myself.)

If you want to continue in the WWII vein, you can try Nine Lives (Arne Skouen, 1957), usually considered a classic.

Director Bent Hamer makes some rather quirky films that don't tend to sell a lot, but are popular with critics and at festivals. His most well-known films are probably Eggs (1995) and Kitchen Stories (2003).

Other films that have been popular and/or received good reviews:

Flåklypa Grand Prix (Ivo Caprino, 1975) - a stop motion animation that is probably the greatest commercial success of all Norwegian films, though it might be a bit parochial
Orion's Belt (Ola Solum, 1985)
The Pathfinder (Nils Gaup, 1987)
The Other Side of Sunday (Berit Nesheim, 1996)
Insomnia (Erik Skjoldbjærg, 1997) - also got an American remake in 2002
Detector (Pål Jackman, 2000)
Elling (Petter Næss, 2001)
Buddy (Morten Tyldum, 2003)
Hawaii, Oslo (Erik Poppe, 2004)
Kissed by Winter (Sara Johnsen, 2005)
Free Jimmy (Christopher Nielsen, 2006)
Reprise (Joachim Trier, 2006)
Upperdog (Sara Johnsen, 2009)
