View Full Version : Discovered while moving

I am moving, and this time getting rid of almost all my stuff. It is really hard, actually, because I tend to packrat and I tent to make 'junk boxes' which I don't do anything with ever.

But this time I am going to try to only move some books + board games + desktop + whatever can fit into 3ish pieces of luggage.

OK, I am moving a lot of books + board games, and I still don't know what I will do with my paintball gun + video games + electric piano + etc + etc.

But now to the discovered bit... I am a bit careful about going through old papers because there is occasionally something important there. This isn't important, but still, I found my old physics Christmas songs.

Here is a couple:
Frosty the photon
Had a very merry soul
Though he spent his life
Running back and forth
To the ends of a dipole.

Frosty the photon
with momentum h-bar-k
Though he had the right
To be known as light
He was called a gamma ray.

--

The first Nobel Mr Resnick did say
Was given to Roentgen for finding X-rays
He looked out and saw his wife's hand
Encircled by er wedding band

Nobel, Nobel, Nobel, Nobel
He gave us dynamite,
He gave us del.

The first Nobel winner worked night and day
To find things to do with his new X-rays
He shot them at his friends who thought him quite wise
Until they had children with seventeen eyes.

The next Nobel Mr Resnick informs
Was given to Lorentz, but not for transforms
He shared it with Zeeman for structures so fine
In magnetic fields they saw two lines.

----

We three quarks fine particles are
Bearing charm we travel afar
Fields and forces, spin of course is
Multiplied by h-bar

Oh, quarks are wonderous, quarks are light
Quarks have colors clear and bright
Still misleading, still exceeding
All of physicists' Insight

We three quarks trade gluons all day
All baryons are made this way
Confined inside, we always hide
Unseen forever to say.

----
A lot of course are like this:

God rest ye merry physics profs
Let nothing you dismay,
Don't moan or cry if you must all
Grade finals Christmas day
To save you from the registrar
If grades aren't on the way

Oh, Oh, tidings of As, Bs, and Cs
Mostly Cs
Oh, Oh, tidings of As, Bs, and Cs

In Minnesota in Phyiscs
The teachers do no scorn
Assignments that can only
Be done by early morn
No wonder when we come to class
We all look so forlorn

From God our Heav'nly Father
The laws of Physics came
And unto certain physicists
did He reveal the same
And now we have to learn them all
On threat of Fs and shame

Hmm, I guess back to packing/etc. This is sort of lazyish.

(There are actually a lot more about physics at Gustavus)

Brilliant.

I'm sure MC Hawking would have a couple of things to say about your shameless mixing of physics and religion though.
