Sweden has been looking for a new manager ever since Lars Lagerbäck resigned earlier this month, and everyone has been saying it would be Rosenborg coach Erik Hamrén, well at least since Sven dropped out last week anyway.

Now it turns out his club won't release him to the post. Do clubs do that? Can clubs do that?

That's why Sven couldn't take the job, club wouldn't let him job share.

Yeah, but this was a straight-up contract-breaking switch. I mean, sure, I see that your current employer should be able to stop you spending less time and energy at your current job, but not letting you just break off a contract and go for something else?

Normally they can't stop you if you can pay the contract off. If Swedish FA not willing to pay contract off and he can't afford to that's normal...

he could go and let Rosenborg sue him for contract breech

It's a pity because if the Swedish FA can't even cough up enough money for that, it's not like we're going to be able to find another equally qualified coach anyway.

The Rosenborg director has said he "only wants what is best for the club". Although Hamrén has been a success, I can't see that it is good to force him to stay when he has said there can be no greater honour than being named coach of his national team. Seems silly. Then again apparently they are rather angry at the way the Swedish FA has handled the whole affair...

Yeah well, they're incompetent PR Fools, but that's pretty much a given, isn't it? :)

Um. Well, apparently, the press release and the whole brouhaha about not being interested any more MIGHT just have been a clumsy, alpha-male negotiating "trick". They're having talks again according to reports.

Okay, it's been resolved in the most unfortunate, bizarre manner possible: He's going to do both at the same time, apparently "only doing matches" with the national team. :clueless:
