so, anybody here tried the new FIFA, who got stellar reviews (which isn't saying much, so did a lot of games I found boring). PES is still unknown quantity (even though the demo is out).

I'm still pretty much a PES guy (thanks to counterglow actually) but I'm starting to doubt. I currently play the PES09 version.

Anybody has anything to say about it?

Not first hand, but I have heard quite a few people on a forum I have been frequenting recently bemoaning recent PES games and praising FIFA 10. One big bugbear seems to be that PES still works on an 8 way directional system, whereas FIFA uses 16 directions. Console I am guessing there...

yeah, this is touted as a game changer
I wonder about it
anybody fiddled with it? I can't download the demo on my xbox, and don't have a pad to play it on the pc

Very tempted on a 250GB PS3 bundle including FIFA 2010. Metro this morning name-checked some of the best footie games (in my view) and said FIFA 2010 might be the best ever.

Well I got it Saturday morning. Played about 20 matches on FIFA 10, mostly in manager mode. It really is very, very good. The 360 degree movement is a revelation. Really well done. Being able to angle your run very slightly left or right or push a defender out of the way as you edge towards the box really makes the game feel a lot better. I'm not sure I could be happy going back to a game that doesn't have that now.

It has a fantastic feel to it, it really does feel like a proper football match in terms of gameplay.

Aside from the gameplay the sheer polish of it from commentary, music, graphics, animations, menus, options, team lists does make it a more pleasurable all round experience than Pro Evo (of course this would be worthless if the game wasn't up to scratch).

I've downloaded the PES2010 demo too but so far have been too captivated with FIFA to give it a go.

thanks for that
your first post made me consider buying fifa on the spot actually, and the link made me stop that impulse... a normal day then, considering how often I change opinion on this matter

I think I'll stick to PES
I hope they refined their "legend" mode (career mode, controling one player only), that's the only thing I have been playing for the last year

That mode is called Virtual Pro in FIFA. Seems to be very in depth in terms of options, but after one match I was bored of it.

I got FIFA 10 and don't regret it.

Virtual Pro is great. Both extremely frustrating and extremely compelling.

On PS3? We can probably play online.

I will have to give it another try. My Virtual Pro is a striker, you don't get much of the ball.

ditto. hence the frustration. but it's a hell of a unique gaming experience.

I did consider starting over as a midfielder, but having now fought my way into the Cheltenham town first team i feel i should persist to the (inevitably bitter) end.

the PES option is equally frustrating, but once you get hooked...

I basically played two lifes so far
a striker, from 17 years old to 32 (mode normal, playing about 40 matches per year of his career... even young, you have to play the full training matches before breaking in) and an attacking mid (mode pro, played in PSG, Milan, Liverpool and now Real) again for about 15 years (again about 600 matches...)

never tried mode internatuional, it's already tough enough... the first 50 matches are a bitch, but then it becomes really weird to play with a whole team...

the moves you must make off the ball are very realistic, it's one of the most satisfying aspect of the game (to lose your marker), that of course and projecting yourself as a world class footballer...

Started the Virtual Pro Season mode last night (one match). Was much better than my first go (I actually know what I'm doing a bit now) I got the only goal in a 1-1 draw for Reading Reserves, which was nice.

I think I might get hooked on this.

ouch
I pre-ordered PES
I think the bottom line is that I'm too lazy to change system

After sticking with Pro Evo for years i feel very tempted opting for FIFA 10 for my XBOX. Strangely since buying my XBOX over a year ago i've never had a footie game for it and went back to my PS2 master league. As the latest few Pro Evos by accounts hadn't improved a lot i didn't see the point. Didn't like the way you couldn't bring centre backs up for corners or free kicks and didn't find the shooting that satisfying. I would like to have an option of when the ball is in the air you can press a buton which means you want to volley it when it drops to an appropriate height, before pressing shoot. This would stop the annoying problem of wanting to volley at goal form 25 yards out but the player trying to control it or header it instead.

I haven't tried it that many times but so far on FIFA 10 when I've pressed shoot outside the area with a ball in the air it's tried to volley it (with variable results). I did scream one against the bar with Frank Lampard which was extremely satisfying (even if it didn't go in).

downloaded fifa yesterday, looks very good and, I suppose, the motions are very realistic, except that I got so used to the fairly absurd PES ones that I didn't feel comfortable with the general handling feel

but boy, some stuff with PES (09) is soooo irritating... I still scream at it on a regular basis

There's definitely a learning curve to adapt.

Just bought FIFA10. Been a Pro Evo fan for years but thought it was time to change based on wanting to try something a little different and that most reviews recommended FIFA. Let the fun begin.

got pes 10 and started the Legend mode, I'm probably stuck with it for another year then

I think I'm at peace with playing an "inferior" version, as long as the legend mode is superior (I think it is, in so much as you can only play 3 years of your life on fifa, against 20 in PES, and I'm here for the long haul, baby)

Funko

4 seasons I think with the international tournament at the end, but yes, that is a limitation.

Of course your pro carries on after those 4 seasons, so you can play 4 seasons with one club and carry your pro through to another 4 seasons at another club. Or I've got my pro playing 2 simultaneous seasons + playing for me in manager mode.

Funko
02-11-2009, 10:01:07
It would be better if you could do the whole 20 seasons and get your pro bought and sold by clubs though.

maroule
02-11-2009, 15:56:45
yeah, that's what PES has
it's nice to be courted by clubs and chose who you're going to play for the following year

it's so simple, FIFA should use that system. The core of it is to replay your dreamed life of top footballer, after all, not simply play the matches

Funko
02-11-2009, 16:13:41
I agree. (although being able to also use that pro in other matches, is good too). Combine both systems.

Got Fifa 10 for christmas and it's fucking great. The be a pro game and playing as one player the entire time is suprisingly addictive.

29-12-2009, 17:44:00
Yeah i've been playing that mode again recently. Good fun.

Venom
30-12-2009, 03:16:43
At first I was pretty annoyed that you could only play four seasons as your pro for a team, but I can see that the mode would be pretty played out by then.

King_Ghidra
30-12-2009, 14:14:06
And depending on the league you're playing in, that's a shitlaod of matches anyway. I just finished my first season for cheltenham town and that was 46 games.
