Just built a new understairs cupboard door.

Looks brilliant.

Of course the fucker who owned the house and put the loft stairs in hasn't put the supporting post in quite square. Its facing out into the corridor by about 15 degrees.

So when I mount my new door on the hinges....

Fucking thing won't stay closed and keeps springing open.

Now i understand why the old door was a crappy piece of chipboard (which kept springing open).

Arse.

you could mock up a counter-weight system - since it's an under stair thing. some cord, a weight and a couple of hooks. or you could put a little bathroom lock on it. or employ a coloured fellow to hold it closed.

Or use a little blob of blu-tack.

An understairs cupboard door?

He's recently taken in a new ward after his sister-in-law's untimely demise at the hands of a dark wizard. This is quite common actually.

For the first time ever I'm going for Mr B's solution.

I'll be building this underwater next.

In difficult understairs DIY situations like this you need to ask yourself just one important question: What would Fritzl do?

Use Laz's suggestion of gaffa tape or blu-tack to hold the magnets in place.

Damn, if you were in America, you could hire a Mexican immigrant to hold it shut for you.

My daughter is currently -18 weeks so think I'll stick to the magnets (which worked beautifully)
