Far more exciting than the real thing!

Here's how it stands at the top.

MikeH scored 56 points this week to top the table on 2016 points.

I have 1988 points plus 9 to come from super-sub Fuller, leaving me on 1997, a sizeable gap of 19 points. I have made fewer transfers (30 to 44) so closing the gap by 18 would do the job.

MOBIUS has 1981 points and has made 33 transfers, and would need to outscore Mike by 34 and me by 17 to take top spot.

In other news, I'm about to wrap-up my head-to-head league with a match to spare...

Damn, and I forgot to change my team again this week...

One of these years I'll take this game seriously...;)

There's still a match to go this week but I don't think EiF or I have any players...

All quite exciting. I am hoping that 19 points will be enough but random players not playing on the last day and a good captain pick is really all that's needed.

Very tight.

Will Fergie rest most of the first 11?

*End Is Forever*
19-05-2009, 13:41:54
No idea, but a large chunk of both our points totals could change depending on what he does and which way we gamble. Same, I suppose, goes for any Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal players.

Funko
19-05-2009, 13:44:13
Yeah, although Liverpool Chelsea theoretically have 2nd spot contested, Liverpool Arsenal have no more games this season and Chelsea have a week 'till the cup final so I think it's possibly worse for ManU.

*End Is Forever*
19-05-2009, 13:48:33
I wouldn't be sad to see Fergie field a second-string side if it meant Newcastle getting relegated... ;)

Funko
19-05-2009, 13:50:58
Very few people would be able to argue with him if he put out a second string ManU team and said he thought they'd be good enough to win.

I'd expect something like

Foster

Neville-Brown-Evans-Fabio

Nani-Gibson-Fletcher-Tosic

Welbeck-Macheda

And yeah, Newcastle going down was awesome - especially as all they had to do was avoid scoring an own goal and they would have stayed up.:D

BTW that own goal gave Gareth Barry an assist - which was the difference between me beating you...:cute:

I'm happy with my highest ever Counterglow League final position of 4th place. Especially since i was only 1pt of 5th and had been overtaken in recent weeks.

If Ronaldo goes which seems likely it give me one less team selection headache to worry about. Expect the new game will be out sometime in mid July.

Funny I think no Ronaldo will give me a selection headache. That's a guaranteed first teamer out of the picture.

We need a page with the title holders for each season on it.

And of course I'm only saying that because theres no hope of me ever winning again :)

My tactic of picking players early in the season then abandoning my team spectacularly failed to work. Something like half my players were OUT FOR SEASON - KNEE INJURY by the end of it.

You might want to keep track of and avoid all players I pick in the future.

It should make things more open. It takes something away when you have a really good week and find out you've made no progress in the tables because everyone else has exactly the same bloody players.

Funko

Gerrard might actually be a viable pick at long last.

*End Is Forever*
17-06-2009, 13:22:31
Yeah. Picking Ronaldo (like Henry before him) tied up so much money it really restricted your options. I played most of last year with Ronaldo and Lampard but that meant no big-money striker at all.

Walrus Feeder
18-06-2009, 22:23:32
I found with Ronaldo he scored the vast amount of his points against the weaker teams. So if you picked him as captain at home to likes of WBA or Stoke you were due a windfall. The most difficult thing i find is getting strikers into your team when they have a great run of form. I remember Anelka had a spell around Nov/Dec when he got tonnes of points and then only got one goal and one assist in next 18 matches. Then he got 4 goals and 3 assists in last 4 games!

Funko
19-06-2009, 08:05:58
Midfielders get an extra point per goal, the point for a clean sheet and seem to get more bonus points* and these days the best goalscoring midfielders get similar goal rates to the top strikers so it makes sense to always have a goalscoring midfielder as captain. Big money strikers are much worse value than big money strikers.

I think getting more points against the weaker teams is true of most players at the top sides, they tend to beat the worse teams by bigger margins.

* I don't have any stats to back this up but I'm sure we could get some.

*End Is Forever*
19-06-2009, 14:07:00
I'd second the comments about having attacking midfielders as captain.

Some players seem to attract bonus points even when they aren't really deserved. Ronaldo had that a couple of times and Henry only had to turn up and fart to get a bonus.
