thanks to the magic of BT I'm now connected to the internet at the amazing speed of....

Wait for it.

47 kbps.

On a ADSL line.

On a ADSL line, 500yrds from the exchange that BT themselves rate as supporting 7.5 Mbps.

Only taken me 2 days to convince their helpline monkeys that this isn't normal. They were convinced I meant 4.7Mbps. It was only when they asked me to rerun their line test system and it was so slow i couldn't actually load it that they accepted there might be a problem.

They havn't fixed it but I wouldn't expect minds of their greatness to work that quickly.

Cancel and get Virgin internet. Best internet I've ever had. Installed and working 2 days after my very first phone call to them, and I'm currently downloading Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus at 700kbs on their most basic package.

probably will as soon as my tie in is finished. Certainly will be looking at other non-ADSL options + virgin cable is now available round here with the optical line thingy.

For God's sake, don't get Virgin wireless if you live in Oz (not that any regular posters other than me do). Bloody Schamozzle. :(

Looks like they have done something.

This morning's test reached 5.5 Mbps. Have to see if that speed carries on into peak hours.

They probably removed your porn block, you know, being a persistent offender and all that ;)

Good luck. I ditched DSL back in 2002 because when all the cock suckers in the neighborhood signed on, and they always did, then it was slower than dial up.

Once you go fast, you can't use dial up speeds again.
