Dutch architecture. Seriously take a look at this picture not a green living thing in sight and enough cheap concrete to make you think Stalin's architects built it. Horrible. All the stupid rooves in the world can't make up for that.

All the concrete must make the urban heat island effect hell. Terrible design.

I think I've been there every time I've been to Rotterdam. Totally awesome.

Nav, MOBIUS, Tizzy, Mr_G, Drekkus, MoSe and Mrs MOBIUS were there too..

Horrible. Not all that functional, not attractive, to much cheap concrete, environmentally unaware, and devoid of nature. Flush it down the toilet, please.

They are from the 80s, environmentally unaware would be a reasonable charge if they were new, but I think mainly that's at the surroundings and what they were built on?

Of course they aren't functional.

Aesthetically it is subjective, I think they are spectacular.

Devoid of nature, they are built on a concrete footbridge! See how many plants the residents have introduced into the common spaces though.

I love them.

i think they are ugly but i like that they exist because they made a good backdrop for a fight scene in jackie chan's "who am i?"

An otherwise terrible film. Also cool in R'dam is the building he slides down in that film.

Funny architecture. Useless, but entertaining.

Btw, a propos belgo-dutch architecture: I was in Antwerp for a few days, and that reminded me of one feature I had already wondered about in Brussels: The small terraced houses (row houses, joint houses, whatever - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terraced_house ).

If you have such a house with a facade maybe 5m wide and 3 or 4 floorlevels - is that one family housing? Are they very deep to get some surface, or just that small?

And for MrG:
What density do they reach (as in usable m2 per lot m2)?

usually they get a FSI (floor space index) of 2

and jj that's one house.
normally 5,4 orrr 7,2 m x 12m
