An amusing examination of global mother-sex insults

http://www.slate.com/id/2213558/

Incest-related invectives are only one class of mother insults, which may impugn a mother's sexual integrity—as in the Italian phrase "If the streets were paved with pricks, your mother would walk on her ass"

Everywhere? In Sweden there are no Mother-insults. Except among immigrants. It's because sexual purity of adults is considered less of an issue...

If Zidane had been a Swede, Materazzi's "I slept with your sister" would have garnered the reply "how nice, when will you come and meet the family" instead of a headbutt.

In Greece one very rude and direct insult is "I fuck your mother". This has multiple variations that very often reach the divine. For exaple "I fuck (my or your) virgin mary" or even jesus or god. These phrases of course are blasphemies for the church and the more religious.
Then there are cuter expressions, always with the reproductive circle in the center, for exaple "I fuck my madness" (my favorite). "I fuck my gay twat (aproximative translation)" etc
The more religious have found a circumvent through blasphemy and they sometimes use "I fuck my anti-christ" which is morally acceptable, I guess.

If you are a Christian isn't giving sexual relief to the devil a bit like being a collaborator?

But you do that only if the devil is gay. Otherwise it is generally considered punishment I think.

:D

Still, when you say sexual purity you mean as in sexual permissiveness or sexual promiscuity. Incest is surely still a taboo.

'I fuck your mother' might not get people too angry, 'You fuck your mother' surely must?

and even if it isn't, do you really want the devil's complete and undivided attention?

He was an angel how bad can he be? It was all just a bit of office politics I'm sure.

I just clicked the link. "Gamo ti mana sou" translates to "I fuck your mother" and not "fuck your mother". Unfortunately the article is wrong, at least at this respect of greek curses.

It would, I guess, but I've never heard it used.

On the other hand, there are some rare archaic insults dealing with parentage, but nothing as common as the english "bastard".

I remember as a kid I was VERY puzzled when the other kids got VERY angry at my "son of a bitch" insult.

I was too naive, to me an insult was directed to the kid I launched it to, i really did NOT understand why the kid told me to not dare to insult their mothers!

Mother? I've nothing against your mommy, I'm insulting YOU!

coming to think about it, insults like motherfucker, bastard or son of a bitch are virtually non existant in greece. generally i don't think there's anything about incest or heritage. motherfucker if translated would probably produce an "iiiiik" and the stigma would probably fall on the one who said it (what a sick person!) than the other.
apart from that, you can "do" whatever you want with the other person's mother, god etc

otoh i think i remember one kid at school telling me to go fuck my mother... but he was strange... i punched him in the stomach. he said what was that so i punched him again very hard and that was it.

I heard somewhere that you swear by what oppresses you (e.g. your body, the church, etc.). Everybody is oppressed by their parents.

"fuck your ancestors of 18 generations," may be the worst incest instruction of all.
