Four out of five Britons repudiate creationism

so one in five? that's pretty bad.

5% of adults thinking Darwin wrote A Brief History of Time

that's okay, i'm sure 5% of any group have learning difficulties.

while 1% thought Darwin was the author of The Naked Chef by Jamie Oliver.

these people must just hate being interviewed.

nearly half of the British adult population could not name the country's greatest naturalist as the author of On the Origin of Species

oh dear, that's really, really, really bad.

Exactly what I thought. I was very surprised it was that high.

Maybe it just means that 1/5 don't know what "repudiate" means.

Out of those 20 %, I am sure
- 10% said god created man 6000 years ago
- 90% did not understand the meaning of "repudiate" or "creationism"

it's sort of understandable-ish. the thought of a godless unordered evolutionary universe is such a horrific thought to some people that they absolutely have to believe in creation.

it's partly their parents belief, partly schooling, partly religious misinformation and partly genetic make-up. which is ironic.

whether you believe in god or not, that's fine, there are intelligent arguments either way.

but not knowing who darwin was is ridiculous. even if you never took biology, never went to school and had half your brain knocked out with a brick. he's mentioned on the telly and radio and in newspapers daily and he's on our banknotes!

there must surely be a purpose in it!

like "ignorance is bliss"

especially ignorance of the genetic and evolutionary mechanism is a succesful genetic trait selected eand propagated by evolution

wait, I indulged in PHd once again!
well, at least I won't pass my genes on...
