SSX Tricky has been called, along with Pro Evolution Soccer, one of the best games available for the PS2. Should I pick up a copy or go for the guaranteed fun of Tony Hawkes Pro Skater 3?

THPS2 was great fun, especially multiplayer, even if it didn't have the longevity of ISS Pro Evolution 2 (what game really does?)

I played THPS2 and Supreme Snowboarding on the PC, both great games. I liked THPS2 because of all the hidden extras and it wasn't too difficult

THPS2 had a great fun split screen mode as well, I'm looking for a review of that if anyone has seen one?

I suppose option 3 is to get them both but I think they are a bit similar to each other.

Supreme Snowboarding was one of my fav games last year... Loved the Pipes.

I don't have direct experience with SSX Tricky, but I do own a copy of (just plain) SSX and like it, if that helps. It's the only sports game I ever was interested in enough to buy.

It does actually... I mean I have no real interest in skateboarding but THPS2 was good enough to be great fun despite that, in fact I was playing it a little bit yesterday. It's got that great fun factor that some games are missing that makes it trancend being a fun game just for skating fans.

Heh, to be honest what hooked me on SSX was being able to ram the snowboarders into obstacles.

But let's be fair. Doing the tricks and seeing just how gross you can get once your rider gets better is actually fun, and some of the courses are just BIZARRE, in a good way. I gather the tricks you can do in SSX Tricky are, appropriately enough, even more interesting, and that the courses are even better; apparently some of them are the same courses reworked, plus a couple new ones, and according to a review on IGN, one of my main bitches about the race -- namely, the computer cheats in the finals -- has been addressed. So I'm probably eventually going to pick this up myself.

That sounds good, much like the fun you could have in Tony Hawkes by knocking your opponent off their board. :D

You can knock folks down in SSX. Or get knocked down by them, as often as not. I gather in Tricky the aggression is potentially higher, too.

I prefer Amped to SSX: Tricky. Freestyle is so much better.

I got Tony Hawks 3 at the weekend. So far so good. Best trick so far was a 77,000 pointer so I'm getting somewhere. :)

After trying for ages to get the hang of Manuals on Tony Hawks 2 I find I can suddenly do them on TH3, don't know what the difference is really.

I saw TH3 running on a PS2 at the weekend in some shop somewhere, looked fantastic. I was going to try it out but some muppet idiot kid was trying (and failing) to put in a decent performance for the viewing public.

I really enjoyed the mulitplayer part of TH2 when I played it with MikeH, even if I did get thrashed most of the time, and especially considering I also don't have much interest in skatboarding...

Tony Hawk got a perfect 10 score at gamespot.com. Pretty impressive.

It's a good game. Haven't played much 1p yet, just enough to unlock some levels. 2p is very good though.

Great soundtrack too. Ace of Spades by Motorhead is on there. :)

It would be good if the soundtrack included Stonehenge by the Tap...

It incorporates all forms of music, rock AND folk.

What, TH3? A highly cultured game :)

No, Stonehenge.

THPS3 has punk, hip hop and metal the Skaters genres. It's got The Ramones, on there too.

Here's a good reason to get THPS3 - you will soon be able to play it multiplayer on line...

Well... yes but I probably won't bother with that. Not unless I can connect through the cable modem somehow (a possibility I guess as it is a USB modem and the PS2 has USB ports).
