Vista works fine for me. I was hesitant and wanted to get a laptop without it, but turned out to be no big deal.

It does take a lot longer to boot up than XP, at least on my machines.

This thread reminds me why I feel artists and quasi-artists like architects should not be permitted to use a computer.

It's quite possible to hate Vista despite understanding the ways it doesn't suck.

Well I am on my work laptop since my home desktop went down and this is on XP so looks like I will be on XP until I can get my computer fixed (which needs someone with a similar system so I can diagnose the cause of the problem).

Yes.

It's not just Vista it's every MS OS where they feel they need to redesign perfectly useable UI features just to ruin your average users productivity.

Just change your windows theme to black, hide all your icons and ask yourself 'do i really want do this?' every time you start a program, and you'll be most of the way there.

Vista did have its problems pre SP1 but the people that complain now either don't know where stuff is or are just jumping on the Vista hate bandwagon.

Those where the main things that annoyed me pre SP1. Once I turned UAC off. UAC is mainly annoying because the first thing people tend to do with a new machine is install loads of stuff so you get tons of UAC messages that you probably would get very rarely in normal useage.

The other thing about Vista is a lot of the improvements are backend things that most users never see or security improvements in things people assumed should have been secure already.

To me as a very basic level office user there's no obvious benefit over XP, just some old software that doesn't work anymore and changes to the UI that mean I can't find stuff. The aero interface is annoying and slow so I turned it off.

So yeah, I know it's better than XP but I totally understand why most peoples experiences with it begin with annoyance and confusion which taints their future view of it as an OS.

I'm Vista equiped!!!

And I must say, can't see the problem other people have. Some stuff works a bit different, but once you know how I think it's a bit user (=moron) friendly than XP.

And I had to google to find out how to unlock spider solitair :D
